Rutgers Divers Shine at NCAA Zone A Championships
In an impressive display at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships in Annapolis, Rutgers divers made waves with standout performances. Sophomores Katerina Hoffman and Bailee Sturgill both secured spots at the upcoming NCAA Championships, marking their second consecutive year of qualification.
The competition format combined preliminary and final scores to determine the top divers, with the top 18 out of 86 advancing to the finals. Zone A offered six qualifying spots for the NCAA Championships in the 1-Meter event, and the Scarlet Knights claimed two of them.
Hoffman dazzled with an overall score of 581.60. She started strong with a 285.5 in the prelims, placing her in second. However, it was her finals performance, scoring 296.1, that propelled her to the top, earning her the event title.
Sturgill also delivered an impressive performance, achieving a combined score of 566.75. Her prelim score of 270.0 secured her a spot in the finals, where she excelled with a personal best of 296.75. This not only marked a collegiate best for Sturgill but also ranked as the ninth-best score in Rutgers' program history.
Sephora Ford, another talented Scarlet Knight, scored 261.1 in the prelims, placing 10th to reach the finals. She maintained her position with a final score of 263.55, finishing 10th overall with a total of 524.65. Madilyn Varnum also competed, showcasing her skills with a preliminary score of 218.85.
