Rutgers Cornerback Jacobie Henderson Joins Growing List of Departures

Veteran defensive back Jacobie Henderson is on the move again, bringing experience and versatility to the transfer portal after a brief stint with Rutgers.

Rutgers’ already busy offseason just got a little more crowded. Cornerback Jacobie Henderson has officially entered the transfer portal, adding another name to a growing list of Scarlet Knights looking for a new opportunity. He’s the second cornerback from the program to announce a transfer, joining Bo Mascoe in what’s become a notable shakeup in the secondary.

Henderson spent just one season in Piscataway after transferring in from Marshall, where he played for three years. In his lone year at Rutgers, he made a solid impact-posting 42 total tackles, three tackles for loss, and five pass breakups. Those numbers reflect a player who wasn’t just taking up snaps-he was active, physical, and around the football.

Across his collegiate career, Henderson has totaled 115 tackles and two interceptions, showing a consistent presence on the defensive side of the ball. He’s the kind of corner who brings versatility to a secondary, and that tracks with his background. Coming out of high school, he was initially recruited as a safety before transitioning to cornerback in college-a move that’s clearly paid off in terms of production and playing time.

A former three-star recruit out of South Carolina, Henderson was ranked as the No. 23 player in the state and the No. 109 safety in the 2022 class by Rivals. He redshirted the 2022 season at Marshall, which means he’ll have one year of eligibility remaining as he enters the portal this time around.

For Rutgers, this is another key departure at a position that’s already seen some movement. For Henderson, it’s a fresh opportunity to make an impact in what will be his final college season. And for teams looking for a veteran defensive back with experience at both safety and corner, Henderson’s name should be one to watch closely as portal season continues to unfold.
