Rutgers keeps stacking talent in the 2027 class, and the latest addition pushes the Scarlet Knights into rare air.
Brandon Woodard, a four-star forward from Maryland, has committed to Rutgers, a person with knowledge of the situation told NJ.com on Tuesday. At 6-foot-8 and 210 pounds, Woodard becomes the third pledge in Rutgers’ 2027 group, joining four-star guard RJ Moore and three-star guard Korey Francis.
The numbers around the class are eye-catching. Woodard is ranked No. 72 overall in the 2027 cycle by the 247Sports Composite, and his commitment moves Rutgers up to No. 3 nationally in the same rankings, while placing the Scarlet Knights first in the Big Ten. Only Houston and Iowa State sit ahead of them.
That ranking is still very much a snapshot this early in the process, but if Rutgers holds that position, it would mark the highest-rated recruiting class in program history. The current benchmark is the 2024 class featuring five-stars Dylan Harper and Ace Bailey, which finished fourth nationally.
Woodard’s decision came after an official visit to Piscataway the weekend of September 19. He picked Rutgers over offers from Providence, Georgetown and Mississippi State, schools he had been scheduled to visit before making his call.
With Woodard in the fold, Rutgers has one scholarship spot left for the 2027-28 season, though the roster picture remains far from settled with more than 12 months still to go before that season begins.
The projected makeup of that roster, based on years of eligibility remaining, includes one-year players Darin Smith, Jamichael Davis and Tariq Francis; two-year player Will Sydnor; three-year players Lino Mark, Kaden Powers, Christian Gurdak and Gevonte Ware; and four-year players Imahri Wooten, Martin Tonejc and Mervedi Miteo.
At guard, the group listed includes Tariq Francis, Jamichael Davis, Lino Mark, Kaden Powers, Imahri Wooten, RJ Moore and Korey Francis.
