Rutgers’ 2027 basketball recruiting class keeps climbing, and the latest move pushes it into elite company.
After four-star power forward Brandon Woodard of Bishop McNamara in Lanham, Md., committed earlier today, the Scarlet Knights jumped to No. 4 nationally in the 247Sports team rankings. Rutgers is now tied with Wisconsin at 45.24 points, with both programs carrying three four-star pledges and a 90.33 average rating. Houston leads the way with four four-stars, while Iowa State is second and Purdue sits third.
Woodard gives the class another major piece. 247Sports has him ranked No. 95 overall, No. 19 among power forwards and No. 3 in Maryland.
He joins shooting guard RJ Moore of Ambassador Christian in Huntersville, N.C., and guard Korey Francis of Monsignor Bonner in Drexel Hill, Pa. Moore committed earlier this month during an official visit and is ranked No. 60 nationally with a 91 rating, which puts him No. 14 among shooting guards and No. 2 in North Carolina.
Francis, who pledged in mid-September, checks in at No. 129 nationally and No. 22 among point guards.
Woodard had Rutgers, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and Providence as his main schools after Peach Jam, and he took his official visit to Piscataway last weekend.
Even with Steve Pikiell continuing treatment for a cancer diagnosis, Scarlet Nation has learned he remains heavily involved in recruiting.
As more programs fill scholarship spots, the rankings continue to shift. For Rutgers, though, the big picture is clear: three four-stars in one high school cycle is its strongest haul since the 2024 class that featured Ace Bailey, Dylan Harper and Lathan Sommerville.
That group finished No. 8 nationally in the 247Sports Composite and No. 2 in the Big Ten. This 2027 class now has a real shot at challenging for Rutgers’ top-ranked class in modern program history.
