Rutgers 2026 Hopes May Ride On One Preseason Concern

With experienced linemen like Needham and Asamoah returning, Rutgers' offensive line aims to solidify its strength and adaptability to support a new quarterback through the 2026 season.

Rutgers’ offensive line is starting to come into focus, and the first thing that jumps out is the experience. There are still question marks in the mix, but the Scarlet Knights are getting back two familiar names in Needham and Asamoah, and that matters.

Training camp is also where the quarterback battle is unfolding, so the work up front is being sorted out at the same time. This week, Big Ten Network’s Dave Revsine posted video that offered a look at how Rutgers’ line is lining up.

Needham’s return gives Rutgers a veteran presence on the edge, and his path has been anything but straightforward. He shifted to the left side last season after the Scarlet Knights were hit with multiple injuries, then started nine games at left tackle and one game at right rackle.

Before that, in 2024, he opened nine games at right tackle before a knee injury ended that run. His career has also been interrupted before that: in 2023, he was set to be the right tackle until a season-ending injury against Temple in Week 2 stopped those plans.

Asamoah brings the kind of stability every offensive line wants. Over the last two seasons, he has started all 25 games at right guard.

His role was already growing before that, too. In 2023, as a sophomore, he played in all 12 games at the position and made five starts.

He also had three starts as a true freshman.

Rutgers’ front five has come a long way since Greg Schiano returned to Piscataway. What used to be a weakness has become a strength, and with a new quarterback on the way, that group up front will need to hold its line again.

Rutgers Is Quietly Fixing A Game Day Headache Fans Know Too Well

Rutgers is making a run at one of the most familiar frustrations around SHI Stadium, announcing a series of football gameday changes for the 2026 season aimed at smoothing out traffic, parking and pedestrian flow. The university said the updates are meant to improve the experience from the moment fans arrive through the time they head home, a sign the school is trying to chip away at the bottlenecks that can make a Saturday in Piscataway feel longer than it should.

Among the changes are revised traffic patterns and parking adjustments designed to better manage the postgame rush. Rutgers is also adding a new support operation for fans inside the stadium, with a gameday help presence backed by a helpline and email option, giving visitors a clearer place to turn when questions or problems come up during home games. Rutgers Has A Feel Good 2026 Story Fans Can Rally Around

Rutgers has a pair of familiar names getting some preseason recognition as Dantae Chin and Moses Walker were both placed on the Comeback Player of the Year watch list released by College Sports Communicators, The Associated Press and the Fiesta Bowl Organization. The honor is designed for college football student-athletes who have worked back from injury, illness or other difficult circumstances, which gives the Scarlet Knights a nice early storyline as the program looks ahead to the 2026 season.

For a fan base already sizing up the upcoming schedule and ticket sales, the watch-list nod adds a human element to the buildup. Chin and Walker give Rutgers something more than just dates on a calendar right now, and their presence on the list offers a reminder that the next season is about more than wins and losses. There is a comeback angle here worth following once camp gets closer and the depth chart starts to take shape. [Read more 🡒]
