Grace Lu put together a solid finish at the 126th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship, closing out her first run in the event with a one-over-par 73 in the second round of stroke play Wednesday at The Honors Course in Ooltewah, Tennessee.
The Rutgers women’s golfer had three birdies in the round as she wrapped up play in a field stacked with 40 of the world’s top 100 amateur golfers, including five ranked in the top 10. It was a strong showing on a demanding stage for Lu, who was making her debut at the championship.
“We are proud of Grace's performance this week at the U.S. Women's Amateur,” said head coach Kari Williams.
“She carried herself well on the biggest stage and played some stretches of excellent golf on a championship course. Grace had an incredible summer of tournament play and those experiences will be valuable as she prepares for our fall season.”
Lu became the first Scarlet Knight to qualify for the event since Leigha Devine in 2022. She earned her place by co-medaling at her June qualifier at Copper Hill Country Club with a 3-under-par 69, then arrived with momentum after a semifinal appearance at the 101st New Jersey Women's Amateur and a runner-up finish at the Women's Met Open.
A 2025-26 Big Ten Golfer to Watch, Lu finished last season with a 73.50 adjusted scoring average over 35 rounds and 12 tournaments. She posted seven top-20 finishes, five top-10 results and two top-five finishes.
