Ryu Shines Again: Big Ten Freshman of the Week Honors
In a standout performance that has the Rutgers community buzzing, freshman golf sensation Elizabeth Ryu has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. This accolade comes on the heels of her impressive showing at the City of Oaks Collegiate in Raleigh, North Carolina, where she played a pivotal role in leading the Scarlet Knights to a runner-up finish.
This isn't Ryu's first rodeo with conference recognition. She previously snagged the same honor in the fall after a stellar tied-for-third finish at the Lehigh Invitational. Her ability to consistently perform at a high level is quickly making her a name to watch in collegiate golf.
At the Lonnie Pool Golf Course, Ryu delivered her second top-five finish of her burgeoning career, tying for fifth place. Over the course of 54 holes, she carded a six-over-par 222, with rounds of 76, 71, and 75.
Her standout moment came during the second round, where she fired a one-under-par 71. This was one of only seven under-par rounds in a competitive 73-player field.
Hailing from Dublin, Ohio, Ryu showcased her skill and poise with five birdies and 40 pars throughout the tournament. Her performance not only highlights her individual talent but also underscores the promising future of Rutgers women's golf.
Ryu's achievements are a testament to her dedication and potential. As she continues to make waves, fans and teammates alike are eager to see what she will accomplish next on the green.
