Anthony Knox Brings Rutgers A Swagger Fans Will Want To Track

After overcoming personal and athletic challenges, Anthony Knox sets his sights on wrestling greatness at Rutgers, aiming for an undefeated college career and multiple national titles.

Anthony Knox arrived at Rutgers with plenty of attention and a route to Piscataway that looked nothing like the standard college wrestling path. Now the freshman says his focus is simple: win, keep winning, and do it in a way that matches the belief he has carried for years.

“I have. You guys have been hearing me say stuff like that since I was 14. Nothing changes in my mind,” Knox said Tuesday when asked about his expectations for his time at Rutgers.

That confidence has followed him through a stretch that included an altercation during his senior season of high school, police charges tied to that incident, a season at Cornell wrestling unattached, and then a return to New Jersey. Knox said the difficult parts of that journey have given him purpose.

“It’s motivation. Being able to step in here and kind of forget about all that and come in every day and work through these things,” Knox said.

The No. 4 recruit in InterMat’s Class of 2025, Knox spent a grayshirt season at Cornell before transferring. Rutgers was his final destination after a list that also included North Carolina, Ohio State and Virginia Tech.

Knox has not backed away from the edge that comes with his self-belief. He said he wants to dominate, and he knows some people are put off by that kind of talk.

“I expect to go out there and I expect to dominate. I'm exuding confidence when I step on the mat. Some people don't like that, but that's the way I like to compete, and that's the way I think about things.”

At the same time, Knox said he understands there’s a difference between confidence and overplaying his hand. College wrestling has already shown him that the margin can be thin.

“It’s scary. I went to Clarion (the Clarion Open) when I was at Cornell.

I was a little banged up. I wrestled Nic Bouzakis - he's been around the scene for a while - and I lost,” Knox said.

He said that loss left him unsure of where he stacked up. But later, after arriving at Rutgers, he started to feel more comfortable in his own skin on the mat.

“When I came here and started training, I felt a little bit better, but again, I wasn't sure. Then I go to the Open, I beat two All-Americans on my way to taking third at the open.

Spencer Lee's a different beast - again being able to feel him - he's really good, but I feel like I can kind of get there. I'm still kind of learning where the learning curve is.

I'm ready to go. I'll compete with anybody.

I would love to compete against the best guys every single day if I could.”

Knox said the setback from high school is behind him now, and that he has learned from everything that came with it. What matters most, he said, is the daily work and the relationships he has built since getting to Rutgers.

“I built a great relationship with the coaches, the staff, and my teammates. They trust me.

They know who I am. It's just coming in day after day, stacking days, working, and trying to accomplish my next goal.”

For Knox, that next goal is already clear.

Rutgers Has One Last Chance To Prove Something Against Indiana

Greg Schiano didnt downplay the task ahead as Rutgers prepares to face Indiana, instead using the matchup to acknowledge how far Curt Cignetti has pushed the Hoosiers. He praised Indianas rise into a national champion and a team that has settled in as a consistent contender, which is a reminder of the standard Rutgers is chasing as it keeps trying to turn its own rebuild into something sturdier. For Schiano, this is as much about measuring progress as it is about the scoreboard.

The Scarlet Knights have spent recent weeks trying to reinforce their culture and show more consistency, and Indiana offers a blunt test of whether that work is translating. Rutgers knows it is meeting a program that now expects to win, which only sharpens the stakes for a team still looking to prove it belongs in that conversation. The challenge is obvious, but so is the opportunity to leave with a better sense of where the program stands. [Read more 🡒]

Rutgers Returns Home With A Big Chance Against Penn State

Rutgers field hockey is back home for a useful two-game stretch this weekend, hosting Penn State on Friday before welcoming American on Sunday, with both matches set to stream on B1G+. The Scarlet Knights will also use the occasion to honor alum Amy Lewis during Homecoming, adding a little extra meaning to a weekend that already carries some weight for a team sitting at 5-5 and looking to steady itself as the schedule tightens.

Penn State brings a familiar Big Ten test, while American comes in with its own set of key contributors and a series history that gives Rutgers another angle to manage. For a Scarlet Knights group trying to build momentum at home, the chance to respond in front of a Homecoming crowd makes this a weekend with more than just ordinary midseason value. [Read more 🡒]

Rutgers Suddenly Has A Recruiting Surge Fans Needed To See

Rutgers basketball has spent years trying to convince recruits that the path in Piscataway can lead somewhere bigger, and the early returns for the 2027 class suggest that message is starting to land. The Scarlet Knights have already landed three four-star prospects in RJ Moore, Brandon Woodard and Korey Francis, a haul that gives the program real momentum on the recruiting trail and a much-needed boost for a fan base eager to see the roster-building pay off.

For a program that has not been a regular NCAA Tournament presence, the selling points have had to be more than promises, and the staff appears to be leaning on development as much as on opportunity. Athletic director Keli Zinn and general manager Rob Sullivan have become part of that pitch, with Rutgers showing progress in both high school recruiting and the transfer portal since Sullivan arrived. There is still a long way to go before any of it translates into wins, but the pipeline is suddenly looking a lot sturdier. [Read more 🡒]
