Purdue’s 2027 class just got a whole lot more interesting.
On Sunday, four-star point guard Kevin Savage announced his commitment to the Boilermakers in an interview with CBS Sports, giving Matt Painter another major piece for the future. Savage, a 5-foot-11 guard from Marietta, Ga., chose Purdue over Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech and UCLA.
247Sports has Savage ranked as the No. 36 overall prospect in the 2027 class and the No. 9 point guard. Purdue made him a clear priority, and the Boilermakers’ recruiting push paid off in a big way after also landing four-star center Isaiah Hill.
Hill, an in-state center from Indianapolis, committed in May. He’s ranked No. 18 overall by 247Sports and stands as the highest-rated prospect to commit to Purdue in the recruiting rankings era.
Savage put together a strong spring on the Adidas 3SSB circuit, averaging 20.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in April and May. He brings scoring punch and ball-handling to the backcourt, while Hill gives Purdue a big, versatile anchor in the frontcourt.
That pairing matters. Purdue has already seen what a dominant center-point guard combo can do. In 2024, the Boilermakers rolled with Zach Edey inside and Braden Smith running the offense, and that group helped power a 34-5 season, a Big Ten regular-season title and a trip to the National Championship Game.
Hill and Savage have that kind of upside on paper.
Hill is listed as a 7-footer with explosive post play and elite shot-blocking ability, but he’s also versatile enough to impact the game away from the paint on both ends. Savage, meanwhile, is a confident scorer who can get buckets from all three levels and has the vision to create for teammates.
That combination should fit neatly into pick-and-roll and pick-and-pop actions, where the two could be tough to contain.
Of course, rosters change fast in college basketball. The transfer portal and the NBA Draft can reshape everything. But right now, Purdue is building something strong at the two most important spots on the floor.
For the 2027-28 season, Hill would join a center group that already includes Daniel Jacobsen, Sinan Huan and Raleigh Burgess. Savage would slot into a backcourt with Omer Mayer and Luke Ertel.
If that group stays together, Purdue will have real depth at both point guard and center - exactly the kind of foundation that helps teams make deep NCAA Tournament runs.
