Indiana high school football is back Friday, and four Purdue in-state commits are set to open the season with a chance to put their names in front of fans early.
The Boilermakers’ 2027 class already includes Kaleb Elkins of Warren Central, Izayveon Moore of Lawrence North, Ethan Reyna of Andrean and Nick Schurman of Westfield. All four are scheduled to play Friday, Aug. 21.
Elkins leads the group in the rankings. The defensive back is a four-star prospect and the No. 387 player overall, according to 247Sports.
He’s coming off a 2025 season that saw him post 29 tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions, and over the past two years he has totaled 61 tackles, 14 pass breakups and eight interceptions. Warren Central went 8-5 last season and reached the semi-state round of the IHSAA tournament.
Elkins is also one of three Purdue commits on The Indianapolis Star’s 2026 Preseason Super Team.
Moore made his move to Purdue in early June after originally being committed to Miami (Ohio). The Lawrence North back has been a big-play threat throughout his prep career, topping 1,000 rushing yards in each of his first three seasons.
Last year, he piled up 1,587 yards and 30 touchdowns on 167 carries, averaging 9.5 yards per attempt while helping Lawrence North finish 7-3 before a first-round exit in the IHSAA sectionals. He, too, landed on The Indianapolis Star’s Preseason Super Team for 2026.
Moore is a three-star prospect and a top-25 player in Indiana.
Reyna was the first in-state member of Purdue’s 2027 class to commit, announcing in May. The Andrean linebacker is a three-star recruit and the No. 19 player in Indiana.
He’s been everywhere for the 59ers, going over 100 tackles in both his sophomore and junior seasons. Over the last two years, he’s added 16 tackles for loss, six sacks and two interceptions.
Andrean went 13-1 last season, won a state championship and enters this year ranked No. 1 in its class again.
Schurman rounds out the group as another 2026 Indianapolis Star Preseason Super Team selection. The Westfield lineman is 6-foot-4 and 280 pounds, and he chose Purdue over Illinois, Indiana and other Big Ten suitors before announcing his pledge in June.
Westfield has reached its class’s State Championship Game in each of the past two seasons, finishing 12-2 in 2025 and 11-2 the year before. The Shamrocks are expected to be in the title mix again in 2026.
Schurman is a three-star prospect and a top-20 in-state recruit.
