Purdue's Early NCAA Outlook Says Plenty About This New-Look Team
The first early look at Purdues NCAA prospects says plenty about how different this season feels in West Lafayette. ESPNs Joe Lunardi has the Boilermakers slotted as a No. 6 seed in the South Region for the 2027 NCAA Tournament, a projection that comes with possible matchups against teams such as TCU, Xavier, Virginia and UNC Wilmington. For a program that has spent recent seasons leaning on established stars, this group is entering a new phase with only one starter back from last years team.
There is still no preseason All-Big Ten recognition attached to the roster, which underscores just how much is still being sorted out before the games begin to matter. Purdue has rebuilt through recruiting and transfers, and the pieces are in place for a very different kind of roster conversation than the one the Boilermakers usually have in October. The intrigue now is less about proven returns and more about how quickly the new-look team can turn a projected mid-tier seed into something sturdier. [Read more 🡒]
Purdue Has A Chance To Prove That Big Ten Win Meant Something
Purdue heads into its home matchup with Minnesota carrying more than just the usual Big Ten pressure. After finally breaking through for its first conference win since 2023, the Boilermakers now have a chance to show the result was more than a brief burst of relief. Minnesota arrives with momentum of its own, having stacked up meaningful wins early and looking like a team that can punish mistakes in a hurry.
For Purdue, the challenge is as much about follow-up as it is about execution. The Boilermakers will have to sort through key player availability, manage injuries and win a handful of strategic battles if they want that last conference breakthrough to mean something in the larger picture. A victory here would give the season a different kind of credibility, while a step backward would leave the earlier win feeling a lot less substantial. [Read more 🡒]
Katie Gearlds Just Revealed Purdue's Biggest Preseason Challenge
Big Ten Media Days offered a useful early look at where Purdue womens basketball stands heading into the 2026-27 season, and Katie Gearlds did not shy away from the main issues facing her group. The Boilermakers are bringing back a roster heavy on international flavor, with seven international players on the roster and one currently sidelined by injury, while sophomore Avery Gordom is expected to take on a larger role as the staff sorts out how the pieces fit.
Gearlds also made it clear that the preseason challenge is about more than simply filling minutes. Purdue wants to play with more offensive tempo, adjust defensively around the injury situation and keep pushing up the Big Ten ladder after spending the offseason focused on what it will take to get back into the NCAA Tournament conversation. With Kyndall Hunter and Hannah Wickstrom joining their coach in Indianapolis, the Boilermakers sounded like a team still defining itself, but with a clear sense of where the bar is set.
