Purdue has landed in the middle of the wait-and-see part of its offseason roster build, and Enzo Shahrvin is now on campus in West Lafayette.
The 6-foot-7 forward from France announced his arrival with an Instagram post that included a photo of Mackey Arena. But even with Shahrvin in town, the next step is still out of Purdue’s hands. He has not been cleared by the NCAA, and the Boilermakers have not officially added him to the 2026-27 roster.
For now, Shahrvin can practice with Purdue. He just can’t take part in games.
That limitation matters immediately, because Purdue is headed to Canada later this week for four games under an NCAA rule change that allows teams to take international trips more often. Shahrvin will not be eligible to play in those contests, according to Nathan Baird’s reporting from The Indianapolis Star.
There’s also no firm timeline on when the NCAA will rule. Baird reported that a decision before Purdue leaves for Canada is unlikely. And even beyond the trip, there’s no guarantee Shahrvin gets cleared at all as the NCAA prepares to tighten eligibility rules for athletes who have earned money playing their sport, including potential EuroLeague prospects.
Shahrvin spent two years with Paris Basketball in EuroLeague play. In 11 games last season, he averaged 2.5 points and 1.5 rebounds.
If the NCAA does approve him, Purdue would be getting him for one year. The organization’s five-year eligibility rule means players can’t compete past age 24.
What Purdue is after is pretty clear: size, strength and a real physical presence inside. The Boilermakers’ frontcourt is already packed for 2026-27 with Daniel Jacobsen, Raleigh Burgess, Sinan Huan, Caden Pierce, Rivers Knight, Jack Benter and Sam King, but the group still lacks that classic bruising post anchor.
That kind of presence has been a Purdue calling card before. Caleb Swanigan, Isaac Haas, Trevion Williams, Zach Edey and Trey Kaufman-Renn all fit that mold, and Shahrvin is the latest name the Boilermakers are hoping can bring that edge back.
Purdue opens its Canada trip at the end of the week against the Vancouver Selects at Langara College in Vancouver, British Columbia.
