When it comes to developing big men, Matt Painter and his Purdue staff have built a reputation that resonates nationwide. This expertise played a key role in four-star center Jamyn Sondrup's decision to commit to the Boilermakers on Thursday night.
Standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing 220 pounds, Sondrup hails from Springville High in Utah and ranks No. 134 in the 2026 class. He shared with 247Sports how Purdue’s history of success and player development under Coach Painter influenced his choice.
Reflecting on his decision, Sondrup said, "The success they've had over the years clearly shows that Coach Painter and the school know how to win and develop players. I've built a strong connection with the staff, especially Coach PJ Thompson, who consistently checks in on me, making me feel like part of the family."
Sondrup, who showcased his skills with the Utah Prospects over the summer, brings a robust physique and the classic tools of a post player. He aims to contribute energetically from the get-go while expanding his skill set in West Lafayette.
"I believe I can make an immediate impact with my work ethic, energy, and ability to score and compete on both ends," Sondrup explained. "At Purdue, I see room for growth, particularly in my ball handling and perimeter defense."
With the addition of Princeton transfer Caden Pierce, Sondrup becomes Purdue's sixth commitment for 2026, adding more size to a class that already boasts three four-star prospects. His excitement for the next chapter is palpable, and he wants Boilermaker fans to know what they can expect.
"It's a blessing and a culmination of lifelong hard work to reach the next level," Sondrup expressed to 247Sports. "Purdue fans can expect someone who gives everything on the court, plays hard, represents the program well, and most importantly, does whatever it takes to win."
