Brysen Wright’s recruitment took a sharp turn Thursday, and Miami came out of it with a major win.
The top-rated wide receiver in the 2028 class committed to the Hurricanes, picking the No. 1 team in the country over Texas and Florida. Then Wright added the twist: he also announced that he’s reclassifying to 2027.
Wright has been a major name for a while. He first started drawing heavy attention as a freshman at St. Augustine High School, and the 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver later became the top in-state recruit for Mandarin High School in Jacksonville.
Miami had plenty of competition before landing him. Wright narrowed his final group to the Hurricanes, Florida, and Texas, but the list of schools that offered him was much longer, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida State, Ohio State, LSU, Louisville, Texas A&M, Oregon, and Tennessee. Miami was first to extend an official offer, doing so in December 2023.
The Hurricanes kept him close after that. Wright was a frequent visitor on campus, taking in junior day events, elite recruiting weekend events, and summer prospect camps. His most recent trip came a couple of weeks ago, when he watched Miami beat Florida State in double overtime.
Wright’s production matches the hype. As a sophomore in 2025, he caught 46 passes for 903 yards and earned Sophomore All-American honors from MaxPreps.
That same site lists him at 46 receptions for 984 yards and 11 touchdowns for the 9-1 Mustangs. He’ll next play in the Florida Class 5A playoffs.
Miami’s quarterback connection is already in place, too. Wright has been catching passes this year from another Hurricanes commit, 3-star 2028 quarterback Knox Annis. The Hurricanes also hold a pledge from 4-star offensive lineman Kweli Fielder out of Carrollton, Ga., for 2028, though Wright will now arrive on campus earlier than both of them.
For Mario Cristobal and his staff, the timing only adds to the momentum. Miami had already landed five 5-star recruits in the 2027 class, and with the Early Signing Period a month away, the Hurricanes are still in the mix for 5-star edge-rusher DJ Jacobs and 5-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews. If Cristobal closes on both, it would cap what’s shaping up to be a historic class for the ACC powerhouse.

Lakers Face One Big Rotation Question With First Place At Stake
The injury report is doing a lot of the talking ahead of this Western Conference matchup, with the Lakers and Trail Blazers both trying to navigate absences at a time when every result matters. Los Angeles is without Cameron Carr and Bronny James, while Sandro Mamukelashvili is questionable because of an illness, and Walker Kessler is available as the rotation takes shape.
Portland, meanwhile, keeps showing the kind of depth that has helped it stay competitive even while missing Ja Morant, Shaedon Sharpe, John Tonje and Vit Krejci. For a Blazers team that has managed to hold its own through injuries, this is another chance to test that resilience against a Lakers group with first place in the balance. [Read more 🡒]
Blazers Get An Early Measuring Stick Against A Very Different Lakers Team
The Trail Blazers are about to get their first NBA Cup test of the season, and it comes against a Lakers team that looks a lot different from the one Portland might have expected earlier in the year. Los Angeles has been rolling lately with a three-game winning streak, and the recent surge has been built on strong contributions from key pieces such as Walker Kessler and Matisse Thybulle, giving this matchup a little more bite than a typical early-season group play game.
For Portland, it is an early measuring stick in more ways than one. The Blazers will get a chance to see where they stand against a team that is playing with confidence and getting production from multiple spots, while also offering a useful read on how their own rotation stacks up in a game with some real stakes attached. It is the kind of November matchup that can say a lot about both teams, even before the standings really start to take shape. [Read more 🡒]
Blazers May Need A Backcourt Change Against Luka And The Lakers
The Trail Blazers have opened the 2026-27 season on a strong note, but the next matchup brings a very different kind of test. Luka Doncic and the Lakers can expose any backcourt that is a step slow or out of sync, and Portlands recent stretch has put a spotlight on how it wants to line up defensively when the pressure rises.
Scoot Henderson has had a rough go in his three starts since Ja Morants injury, which has only sharpened the discussion around whether the Blazers should make a change before facing Los Angeles. One option gaining traction is sliding Jrue Holiday into the starting group to give Portland a sturdier answer on the perimeter, a move that would be less about offense and more about surviving the kind of matchup the Lakers tend to create.
