Portland's Dominance Shines as Bucks Struggle Without Giannis
In a commanding performance, the Portland Trail Blazers dismantled the Milwaukee Bucks 130-99, with Scoot Henderson leading the charge by dropping 23 points. The absence of Giannis Antetokounmpo, sidelined with a left knee injury, was palpable for the Bucks as they continued their recent struggles.
Portland showcased a balanced attack with Jerami Grant and Deni Avdija each contributing 18 points, while Donovan Clingan impressed with a double-double, tallying 14 points and 15 rebounds. This victory marks another notch in the Blazers' belt as they secure a play-in spot, winning five of their last six games.
On the other side of the court, Ryan Rollins was a bright spot for Milwaukee, posting a career-high 36 points. However, the Bucks have hit a rough patch, losing 12 of their last 15 games. The team's woes have been exacerbated by the absence of their 10-time All-Star, Antetokounmpo, who has been out since injuring his knee against the Pacers on March 15.
The Blazers dominated from the start, building a 27-point lead in the first half and heading into halftime with a 71-49 advantage. By the third quarter, Portland extended their lead to 33 points, allowing coach Tiago Splitter the luxury of resting his starters midway through the fourth quarter.
Portland's control of the game was evident in their rebounding prowess, outmatching the Bucks 54-34, and their defensive presence with 11 blocks. Seven Blazers reached double figures, underscoring their team effort.
As discussions swirl around the league regarding player participation and tanking, Bucks coach Doc Rivers clarified that Giannis' absence is solely about his health. “We’re just trying to get Giannis clear and healthy,” Rivers emphasized. “That’s our only focus.”
With the playoffs looming, Portland is hitting their stride at the right time, while Milwaukee faces an uphill battle as they await their superstar’s return.
