Anfernee Simons Just Got The Winning Chance He Always Wanted

After a dynamic journey through several teams, Anfernee Simons lands on the Philadelphia 76ers, aligning with his pursuit of a winning environment.

Anfernee Simons has spent plenty of time saying the same thing: he wanted a real chance to win. Now he’s getting one.

After his time in Portland ended with frustration over all the losing, Simons moved on to Boston in a one-for-one deal for Jrue Holiday, still insisting that winning was the goal. But that stop didn’t last long as a true fit. Brad Stevens’ reason for making the trade was mostly financial, and Simons quickly became a name to watch again.

He lasted through the offseason rumors and even steadied himself after a slow start, but the Celtics moved him again at February’s deadline, sending him to the Chicago Bulls for Nikola Vučević. That still wasn’t the kind of landing spot Simons had been chasing.

Now, after waiting out the season and reaching free agency, he finally gets to pick his own destination. ESPN’s Shams Charania reports that Simons has agreed to a two-year, $12.3 million deal with the 76ers, with a player option in Year 2. Charania also reported that Simons chose Philadelphia over other options because of how well he fits with the team’s new-look roster.

For Philadelphia, it’s a sharp add at that price. Simons gives them another dangerous combo guard alongside Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe, while the frontcourt has been reshaped around Jaylen Brown, Dean Wade, and Joel Embiid.

HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto reported that the other teams in the mix included the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, Denver Nuggets, Dallas Mavericks, and Indiana Pacers.

Miami made sense on paper too. Simons is from the Orlando area, and the Heat had a clear need for more guard depth and shooting after landing Giannis Antetokounmpo. Philadelphia, though, was the team he preferred.

For Simons, the appeal is simple. He wanted a winning situation, and this time he found one.

Blazers Summer League Roster Hints At Portlands Next Wave

The Trail Blazers Summer League roster offers an early look at the next group of young players trying to carve out a role in Portland, and the mix is what makes it interesting. The roster features a lottery pick, two players on two-way contracts and several others with NBA experience, giving the team a little more substance than the usual July audition.

Yang Hansen is the centerpiece, the second-year center from China who was already one of the events more notable draws a year ago. Hell be joined by two-way players Chris Youngblood and Jayson Kent when Portland heads to Las Vegas for the league schedule that runs July 9-19, with the Blazers set to open against the Phoenix Suns on July 10. Blazers Face A Sharpening Debate After Their Backcourt Shakeup

The Trail Blazers backcourt overhaul has opened up a fresh layer of roster debate, and it comes at a time when Dallas is trying to sort through a crowded frontcourt after adding Santi Aldama. Portlands new look, built around Ja Morant and Damian Lillard, has naturally pushed attention toward the wings, where the Blazers could still use more help if they are going to make the most of this reshaped lineup.

Within that backdrop, the idea of a trade between the two teams has started to get real discussion time, even if nothing is close to being finalized. The framework makes some sense on both sides, with Portland potentially looking for extra value to balance the deal, but the bigger issue is whether the teams needs line up well enough to make a swap worth pursuing or if this is just one of those conversations that sharpens the market without producing a move.
