Steelers Target Stuns Fans with Unexpected Health News Before Draft

Steelers face a pivotal draft decision as health concerns might shift their wide receiver strategy.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers gear up for the offseason, one glaring need has been the lack of a reliable number two wide receiver-a problem that’s plagued their offense for the past two seasons. But on the first day of free agency, the Steelers made a savvy move to address this issue by acquiring Michael Pittman Jr. from the Indianapolis Colts through a late Day 3 pick swap. They didn’t stop there; Pittman was promptly signed to a three-year extension, offering the Steelers a proven partner to line up alongside DK Metcalf, adding much-needed stability to their wide receiver corps.

However, even with Pittman in the fold, the Steelers might still look to bolster their receiving options further. Drafting a wide receiver in the first round remains a possibility.

One intriguing prospect, KC Concepcion, was once a potential candidate for the 21st pick. But recent developments regarding a knee procedure could see his draft stock dip to Day 2.

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Concepcion underwent a knee scope described as routine and preventative. While the procedure isn’t considered serious and he’s expected to be ready for rookie minicamp, any knee-related news can make teams cautious, potentially nudging Concepcion out of first-round consideration.

With Pittman and Metcalf, the Steelers boast two big-bodied threats on the outside. Yet, their offense could still benefit from a receiver who excels in precise route running and creating separation. This is where Concepcion’s skills shine, fitting the mold often favored in Mike McCarthy’s offensive schemes.

Historically, the Steelers haven’t shied away from prospects with medical concerns. Recent first-round picks like Troy Fautanu and Derrick Harmon were initially projected to go higher but slipped due to flagged medical questions. Pittsburgh’s confidence in their medical evaluations allowed them to capitalize on these opportunities.

If Concepcion’s draft stock does slide because of the knee procedure, it might just open the door for the Steelers once again. Trusting their evaluations, Concepcion could still be a viable option with their first-round pick, offering another dynamic weapon to enhance their wide receiver room.
