The Pittsburgh Steelers suddenly find themselves with a quarterback surplus that could matter for the New York Giants.
With Jaxson Dart sidelined by a knee injury in Week 2, the Giants are looking at their quarterback room a little differently now. That’s where Mason Rudolph enters the picture.
Pittsburgh is carrying four quarterbacks on its active roster, with Aaron Rodgers as the starter and Rudolph sitting second on the depth chart behind him. The other two are second-year passer Will Howard and rookie Drew Allar.
Of that group, Rudolph looks like the most realistic trade chip. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report pointed to the Giants as a possible landing spot, and noted that Dart’s return this season is still uncertain. Knox also said Rudolph could bring back a conditional 2027 sixth-round pick if a deal gets done.
“With quarterback injuries mounting around the NFL, Pittsburgh might get the opportunity to get something in return for Rudolph,” Knox wrote. “The list of Week 1 starters we’ve seen injured now includes Sam Darnold, Jayden Daniels, Jaxson Dart, and Caleb Williams,” he noted further.
For now, the Giants are expected to turn to Jameis Winston with Dart out. Winston has already signed a two-year $13 million extension, which shows New York wants him in the building. Even so, the Giants still need more help at quarterback if they want to stay in the mix this season.
If Pittsburgh does decide to move Rudolph, he could give New York a short-term answer while Dart recovers.

The Bengals passing game took an early hit this week when Andrei Iosivas landed on injured reserve after tearing a ligament in his thumb and undergoing surgery. Cincinnati has not given a firm return date, but the projected absence of four to six weeks trims another option from a receiver group that was already facing the challenge of adjusting on the fly.
For the Steelers, it is the kind of development that matters even before the first meaningful divisional head-to-head meeting. Robert Spears-Jennings has already found a way to stand out for the Steelers, even with his role mostly coming on special teams. Through the first two weeks of the 2026 season, the rookie safety leads the league with seven special teams tackles, a strong early sign that he is quickly earning trust in Pittsburgh where every hidden-yardage play tends to matter.
Special teams coach Danny Crossman has taken notice of Spears-Jennings effort and impact, even with limited defensive snaps, and he has also had reason to mention running back Eli Heidenreich after a 26-yard kick return against the Patriots. Steelers Suddenly Have A Health Concern Before Bengals Showdown
The injury report looked a little busier than the Steelers would have liked this week as they prepared for their Week 3 matchup with the Bengals. Jaylen Warren was limited in practice because of a shoulder injury, while Jamel Dean did not participate at all because of an ankle issue, adding more uncertainty to a roster already dealing with a handful of absences and limitations.
