Steelers Eye New Guard as Texans Sign Wyatt Teller
The Houston Texans have made a significant move by signing former Cleveland Browns guard Wyatt Teller. This deal takes one of the top free-agent guards off the market, leaving the Pittsburgh Steelers still searching for a replacement after Isaac Seumalo's departure in free agency.
Teller has inked a two-year contract with the Texans, as reported by Mike Garafolo from NFL Network. This move comes after the Browns released Teller with a post-June 1 designation as part of their extensive offensive line rebuild. Key players like Joel Bitonio, Ethan Pocic, and Jack Conklin are also expected to leave Cleveland this offseason.
At 31, Teller brings a wealth of experience, having started his career with the Buffalo Bills in 2018 before being traded to the Browns in 2019. Over seven seasons in Cleveland, Teller established himself as a formidable presence on the line.
Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 314 pounds, Teller was a fifth-round pick from Virginia Tech. He quickly made a name for himself, starting seven games as a rookie with the Bills and nine more in 2019. By 2020, he had solidified his role as a full-time starter.
Teller's accolades include three Pro Bowl selections from 2021 to 2023 and two second-team All-Pro honors in 2020 and 2021. However, injuries have been a concern, limiting him to 13 games in both 2024 and 2025.
With Teller off the board, the Steelers are feeling the pressure to find a suitable replacement for Seumalo, who had been their starting left guard since 2023. Seumalo recently signed a lucrative three-year, $31.5 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals, adding urgency to Pittsburgh's search for a new guard.
