The Pittsburgh Steelers have added a new name to their wide receiver room, signing A.T. Perry, a former standout at Wake Forest and sixth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Perry joins the Steelers after stints with the New Orleans Saints and Denver Broncos, bringing with him a mix of size, potential, and familiarity with NFL systems.
Perry’s college résumé is nothing to overlook. A two-time first-team All-ACC selection, he was a consistent deep threat during his time at Wake Forest from 2018 to 2022.
That production helped earn him a spot in the 2023 Shrine Bowl and ultimately led to his selection by the Saints. While his NFL career is still in its early stages, Perry has shown flashes-hauling in 12 receptions for 246 yards and four touchdowns so far.
This move marks the first player signing under new head coach Mike McCarthy, signaling the beginning of his imprint on the Steelers’ roster. While it's just one of several futures deals Pittsburgh has made this offseason, Perry’s addition stands out as McCarthy’s first personnel stamp since taking the reins.
The timing makes sense. Pittsburgh is entering an offseason full of questions at wide receiver. With both Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Calvin Austin III set to hit free agency, the Steelers are evaluating all options to bolster a position group that lacked consistency throughout the past season.
At 6-foot-4, Perry brings size the Steelers could use on the outside. He’s the kind of big-bodied target who can stretch the field vertically or win contested catches-traits that could give him a real shot to stick on the roster if he can make an impression during offseason workouts and camp.
There’s still a long way to go before the 53-man roster takes shape, but for now, Perry represents a low-risk, high-upside addition at a position of need. And for McCarthy, it’s the first step in shaping a team he hopes can return to playoff contention.
