Steelers Sent A Personal Message In Their Rivalry Win Over Cleveland

Despite pre-game trash talk from Jared Verse, the Steelers demonstrated dominance with a decisive win, led by Jaylen Warren's impressive ground game and a relentless defensive performance.

Jaylen Warren didn’t spend much time entertaining Jared Verse’s pregame chatter.

After the Steelers rolled past the Browns 27-6 in Week 8, Warren said Pittsburgh knew what Verse had said but wasn’t exactly hanging on every word.

“Yea, but we didn't really pay attention to it," Warren said. "Some walk, some talk."

Verse, Cleveland’s EDGE rusher, had made headlines before the matchup by calling the Steelers “dirty” and saying he wasn’t “worried about nobody they got on their team.”

The talk didn’t change much once the game kicked off. Pittsburgh controlled the AFC North battle from start to finish, and Warren was a big reason why.

On his birthday, the 28-year-old turned in another strong performance, even if he was unusually quiet as a receiver. He finished with zero receiving yards, the first time in 2026 he’s been held without any production in that part of the game.

On the ground, though, Warren was a problem. He ran for 143 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries as the Steelers piled up 200 rushing yards overall.

Verse, by contrast, had a quiet afternoon of his own, finishing with one tackle and no sacks.

The Steelers’ defense matched the tone of the game, too. Pittsburgh came away with eight sacks, 13 quarterback hits, and two fumble recoveries while holding Cleveland to 34 yards on 15 carries.

The intensity carried into the locker room afterward, where Jaquan Brisker said Cleveland’s decision to receive after winning the opening coin toss rubbed the Steelers the wrong way.

“I think them taking the ball was kinda disrespectful," Brisker said. "Especially being at home.

So it kinda turned us up, and obviously you seen how the first series went and things like that... I wouldn't say a particular player really amped us up, because I wouldn't say he motivated us.

I think we were just motivated overall. Basically we didn't like how the first game went, how the first meeting went.

Of course we heard the noise, so that added a little bit to it, but I wouldn't say it was just Verse. We were just hungry to win, and obviously hungry to get a win before the bye week.”

George Pickens Is Reminding Steelers Fans Why Pittsburgh Moved On

George Pickens has given the Cowboys enough flashes this season to keep the conversation about his talent alive, but the old concerns that followed him out of Pittsburgh have not gone away. The wide receiver was traded from the Steelers two years ago, and the move always carried the sense that the on-field upside was being weighed against the off-field headaches that had become part of the package.

Those worries are resurfacing in Dallas, where Pickens has also been managing a shoulder injury while trying to settle in. For Steelers fans, it is a familiar reminder of why the organization chose to move on: the production was real, but so were the frustrations, and the latest chapter suggests the same questions are still attached to his game. T.J. Watt Just Added More Weight To A Familiar Browns Problem

The Steelers Week 8 win over Cleveland was another reminder of how quickly T.J. Watt can tilt a game. Pittsburgh rolled to a 27-6 victory, and Watt was again at the center of it, leading the defense with 2.0 sacks as the Steelers kept building on a strong start to the season.

For the Browns, the frustration is becoming familiar whenever Watt lines up across from them. His latest impact only adds to a long-running problem for Cleveland, and it comes as Pittsburgh continues to lean on his production while sitting at 6-2. Watt has been a steady force all year, and the Browns are just the latest team to be left dealing with the aftermath. [Read more 🡒]

Steelers Fans Are Asking If This 6-2 Start Feels Different

The Steelers head into their bye week at 6-2, and for once the conversation around a strong start does not feel like it is automatically drifting toward the usual cautionary tale. There is still plenty to sort through, especially with injuries and a demanding schedule ahead, but this group has given fans a reason to wonder whether the early record is more than a temporary surge.

What makes the discussion interesting is the sense that this team may be built a little differently than some recent Steelers squads that flashed early and then faded when the season tightened. The next stretch will say a lot about whether Pittsburgh can keep stacking wins and turn a promising first half into something that lasts into January. [Read more 🡒]
