Steelers QB Search Just Got More Complicated With Dante Moore

The Pittsburgh Steelers face a challenging decision in their quest for a quarterback as Dante Moore's concussion clouds their draft strategy.

The Steelers’ search for Aaron Rodgers’ long-term answer just ran into another problem, and this one comes with a name Pittsburgh had clearly been watching closely: Dante Moore.

Oregon’s quarterback will sit out the rest of the college season after suffering a concussion, a development that only deepens the uncertainty around a 2027 NFL Draft class that was supposed to be rich at the position. For Pittsburgh, that matters. The team has been trying to identify its next quarterback, and names like Will Howard and Drew Allar don’t look like the franchise solution going forward.

Moore had been one of the biggest quarterbacks on the Steelers’ radar heading into the year, but this injury adds fresh doubt to his draft case. Concussion concerns can change the way teams view a prospect, and Moore’s stock now has another issue attached to it. He has the talent to make evaluators take him seriously, but that’s also what makes him such a complicated player to project.

This season has been a rough one for both Moore and Oregon. Expectations were high, but injuries and multiple losses have pushed those championship hopes off course. Moore appeared in only four games before being shut down for the rest of the schedule, and that kind of lost time could affect where he lands in the draft - or even whether he declares at all.

Still, there’s a reason Moore remains in the conversation. Even in a limited sample, he put up strong production this year, throwing for 926 yards with nine touchdowns and zero interceptions. That’s the kind of efficiency that keeps him on the board for teams doing serious quarterback homework.

And last season gave the Ducks something even more substantial to evaluate. Moore took over as Oregon’s starter and delivered 3,565 passing yards and 32 total touchdowns in 15 games, while throwing ten interceptions. The numbers show a quarterback who can produce and who was already working to sharpen his turnover profile before this injury interrupted his season.

For the Steelers, the mission hasn’t changed: keep digging on quarterbacks for the 2027 NFL Draft and find the right fit. Moore is still a name worth considering, but now the health check matters even more. Pittsburgh can’t simply dismiss him, though, unless this injury turns out to be long-term.

Steelers Receiver Trouble Is Putting Real Pressure On Omar Khan

The NFL trade deadline is creeping closer, and the Steelers are once again weighing whether they need outside help at wide receiver. For Omar Khan, it is a familiar kind of pressure point: Pittsburgh has already spent time trying to reinforce the room, and the search for steady production has only gotten more complicated as injuries have thinned the depth chart.

With the deadline approaching, the urgency has sharpened around a position group that has not given the Steelers the consistency they want. Khan has been aggressive enough to explore upgrades, but the window to land one is closing fast, and the next move could say a lot about how he plans to handle a roster hole that has become hard to ignore. Deshaun Watson Just Made Steelers-Browns A Lot More Complicated

Deshaun Watsons early-season rebound has changed the tone around Cleveland in a hurry, and that matters plenty for the Steelers, who know how quickly the AFC North can shift when the Browns have stability at quarterback. Through seven games, Watson has helped push Cleveland to a 5-2 start while throwing for 1,482 yards with seven touchdowns and three interceptions, a line that looks a lot different from the uncertainty that surrounded him entering the season.

Ian Rapoport recently suggested Watson has done enough to put himself in the mix to stay under center beyond 2026 if he stays healthy, which is a meaningful step for a Browns team still sorting out its future. Still, the discussion has not reached the point of locking him in as the long-term answer, and that gray area is where this gets interesting for Pittsburgh, because a division rival with a resurgent quarterback can complicate everything from the standings to the offseason conversation. Broderick Jones Is Making The Steelers Look Right Already

Broderick Jones was supposed to be one of the more significant pieces in the Steelers-Cowboys trade package, the kind of move that comes with immediate scrutiny because it reshapes both sides of the deal. Pittsburgh moved on and brought back draft capital, while Dallas took on a young lineman still trying to establish himself at the NFL level, hoping the change of scenery could help him find a clearer path.

So far, the early return has only reinforced how tricky this transition can be. Jones has struggled to carve out a starting role in Dallas and has largely been used as an extra offensive lineman, a reminder that talent alone does not guarantee an instant fit. For the Steelers, the longer that remains the case, the more the trade looks like one they were comfortable making from the start. [Read more 🡒]
