PITTSBURGH - The Steelers’ quarterback picture is getting a lot of attention in training camp, and Christian Kuntz just added some fuel to the conversation.
On his podcast, The Christian Kuntz Podcast, the Steelers long snapper said the team may already have its next franchise quarterback on the roster.
”What a situation to walk into. You’re a 23-year-old quarterback and you get to learn from Coach McCarthy and Aaron Rodgers,” he said, “Just to come into that room for those guys, man, is special.
It’s an opportunity. And I think the future quarterback of the Steelers is in-house right now.
One of those three guys I truly think is the future of the Steelers.”
That comment naturally points the spotlight toward the young quarterbacks who have drawn praise throughout camp. Will Howard and Drew Allar have both impressed teammates and coaches, and Kuntz’s remark seems aimed squarely at that internal competition.
Allar, the team’s recent third-round pick, has already given the Steelers something to think about. He turned in the most eye-catching preseason debut of any rookie quarterback, throwing two touchdowns and adding another score on the ground. Now he’s scheduled to play a full half against the New York Jets, another chance to make a case that he’s worth building around long term.
