The Pittsburgh Steelers are making moves to bolster their special teams by signing veteran running back Travis Homer. Known for his versatility, Homer brings seven years of NFL experience, having spent time with the Chicago Bears and Seattle Seahawks.
Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 211 pounds, Homer has carved out a niche primarily on special teams. Since joining the Bears in 2023, he's been a reliable presence across 36 games, logging 582 special teams snaps compared to 87 on offense. His contributions include working on kickoff return, kickoff coverage, punt, and return units, tallying 10 tackles in 2025 alone.
This move comes as the Steelers face a special teams reshuffle, having lost key players like captain Miles Killebrew, Connor Heyward, James Pierre, and Calvin Austin III to free agency this offseason.
Homer's NFL journey began when the Seahawks selected him in the sixth round of the 2019 Draft out of Miami. During his Seattle tenure, Homer was more involved offensively.
His standout season was in 2021, where he rushed 21 times for 177 yards, averaging an impressive 8.4 yards per carry, and added 16 catches for 161 yards, accumulating 338 yards from scrimmage. He also handled kickoff returns for Seattle in 2022.
