Steelers Linked to Polarizing QB for Potential Rodgers Replacement

Steelers may gamble on a controversial QB prospect as they face uncertainty over Aaron Rodgers' future.

As the Pittsburgh Steelers navigate the uncertain waters of their quarterback future, the spotlight turns to whether Aaron Rodgers will continue to lead the team in 2026. The outlook for his tenure in Pittsburgh beyond next season appears doubtful, prompting the Steelers to consider their options for a successor, possibly setting their sights on 2027.

The challenge for Pittsburgh lies in the upcoming NFL Draft, which isn't exactly brimming with quarterback talent. This scenario might push the Steelers to take a calculated risk on a prospect.

Enter Chad Reuter of NFL.com, who has linked quarterback Beck to the Steelers in his recent four-round mock draft. Reuter projects Pittsburgh selecting Beck in the third round with the 85th overall pick.

Beck's journey has been a rollercoaster. Once considered an elite quarterback prospect, his stock has fluctuated over the years. During his five-year stint at Georgia, he showcased his potential in 2023, throwing for 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns, and six interceptions, complemented by four rushing touchdowns.

After that standout season, Beck had the opportunity to declare for the draft but chose to return to college-a decision that didn't pan out as expected. The following year, he recorded 28 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, with a completion rate of 64.7 percent, before transferring to Miami for the 2025 season.

In Miami, Beck rebounded impressively, amassing 3,813 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions with a completion rate of 72.4 percent, leading the Hurricanes to a National Championship Game appearance. Despite this resurgence, he's generally regarded as a Day 2 draft pick at best.

Questions about Beck's attitude have surfaced throughout his college career, making him a polarizing figure. Some analysts doubt his potential to become a starting quarterback at the NFL level.

Nevertheless, if Beck is available in the third round, the Steelers might find it worthwhile to take a chance on him. While some might have their eyes on other prospects, such as Penn State's Drew Allar, Beck's potential could offer Pittsburgh a promising option for their quarterback succession plan.
