Aaron Rodgers didn’t exactly sound like he was ready to hand out compliments after the Steelers’ 27-6 win over the Browns on Sunday. Even with Pittsburgh rolling past a division rival, Rodgers called the offense “not very complete” and said there “should’ve been a lot more points.”
But the bigger picture looked a lot better for the Steelers by the time the day was over.
At 6-2, Pittsburgh heads into its bye week alone in first place in the AFC North and riding a four-game winning streak. Rodgers made it clear he knows exactly where the team stands.
”We’d like to play our best and still win. We also like to win,” he said.
“We’re 6-2 going into the bye, first in the division. We’re right where we want to be.”
The rematch with Cleveland looked nothing like the first meeting between the teams. Both clubs entered Week 8 at 5-2, with the Browns having already beaten the Steelers earlier in the season on Thursday Night Football at Huntington Bank Field. This time, in Acrisure Stadium, Pittsburgh controlled the game on the ground, piling up 200 rushing yards while holding Cleveland to just 34.
That added up to a 21-point win and a much cleaner spot in the division race for the Steelers. In a crowded AFC North, Pittsburgh is sitting in the best position at the halfway point.
The Browns dropped to 5-3 after the lopsided loss. The Bengals moved into second place at 5-2 after an overtime win over the 1-7 Titans.
And the Ravens, who were the preseason favorite to win the division, fell to last place at 4-4 after a 36-10 loss to the Bills.
Baltimore also took another hit when Lamar Jackson was injured again and is now headed to IR with an upcoming thumb injury.
Pittsburgh’s next game comes after the break, when it hosts the Bengals on Sunday Night Football on Nov. 15 in another key AFC North matchup. Rodgers said the team is focused on the result more than anything else.
“Winning is the most important thing - 2-1 in the division now,” Rodgers said. “Either way, that game in two weeks is going to be really important.”
The Steelers already beat Cincinnati 30-27 earlier this season. They’ve split their two games with Cleveland so far, and both matchups with the Ravens are still ahead.
T.J. Watt said the team has liked the different ways it has been able to get to this point, even if every game hasn’t been pretty.
”I like that we’ve won games many different ways. We’ve come from behind.
We’ve been able to hold leads. We’ve played games where we haven’t looked great.
We’ve played games where we’ve looked great,” he said.
“We just need to continue to grow and build off this performance … There continues to be young guys (contributing), and I think (Derrick Harmon) is coming back soon too, hopefully, so I think this bye week comes at a great time for us.”

Steelers Have One Big Rivalry Streak To Defend This Week
The Steelers come home from Paris with a familiar kind of edge to defend, and this one has been built over years rather than weeks. No matter how much the roster or coaching staff has changed on either side, Pittsburgh has continued to make life difficult for Cleveland in regular-season games at home, turning Acrisure Stadium into one of the Browns' toughest stops on the schedule.
There is still no guarantee of a clean, comfortable outcome in Week 8, especially with the Steelers adjusting to the demands of the trip back from France. Even so, the matchup carries the same old weight for Pittsburgh, which has protected this particular piece of turf for a long time and has another chance to keep that run going against a division rival that has not been able to break through here in years. Steelers Defense Must Set The Tone In A Huge AFC North Test
The next AFC North test brings the kind of familiar tension Pittsburgh has to embrace if it wants to control the game early. Against Cleveland, the Steelers defense is being asked to do more than just hold its ground, with the spotlight on creating an uncomfortable afternoon for Deshaun Watson and setting the tone before the Browns can settle in.
For Pittsburgh, the formula is clear even if the execution is not. Winning the turnover battle and turning pressure into mistakes will go a long way toward deciding whether this matchup stays on the Steelers terms, and the defense will need to be disruptive from the start to make that happen. Steelers Could Make A WR Deadline Swing Fans Will Debate
The Steelers are still looking for ways to bolster a wide receiver room that has been hit by injuries and uneven production, and Brian Thomas Jr. has surfaced as a name worth watching ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Pittsburghs interest in the Jacksonville pass catcher fits the kind of swing a contender can consider when it wants more juice on the outside without waiting for the market to settle.
Thomas has not been a major factor in Jacksonvilles passing game this season, which is part of why his availability is even being discussed in the first place. The Jaguars have not committed to moving him, so any deal would still require the kind of return that makes a trade worth their while, leaving Pittsburgh to weigh how aggressive it wants to be if it believes the upgrade is there.
