It’s that time again-speculation is swirling around Aaron Rodgers and his NFL future. This time, the buzz comes straight from the Steelers' camp.
Steelers' team president Art Rooney II recently shared with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that he anticipates Rodgers will make a decision about his return before the NFL Draft kicks off. Rooney mentioned, "When I talked to him and Omar [Khan] talked to him, he told us he wasn’t going to take as long this year as he did last year [to make a decision]. I’m not 100% sure what that means, but I expect something before the draft."
The draft is set to begin in Pittsburgh on April 23. However, even once Rodgers communicates his decision, the public might not hear about it right away.
Reflecting on last year, Rodgers officially joined the Steelers on June 6. But, as reported by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, the team had been quietly confident about his signing well in advance. This year, Rooney’s comments suggest a bit more uncertainty.
At 42, Rodgers still has plenty of game left in him. In 2025, he threw for 3,322 yards, 24 touchdowns, and seven interceptions with the Steelers. New Steelers head coach McCarthy noted to ESPN Milwaukee in February, “There’s definitely a decompressing period that goes on with the older guys (after the season), and that’s where we are.”
As the draft approaches, all eyes will be on Pittsburgh to see what decision Rodgers makes and how it will shape the Steelers' strategy moving forward.
