Pittsburgh Steelers rookie Max Iheanachor is trying to handle a nightmare off the field just as his NFL debut approaches.
According to reports, burglars broke into Iheanachor’s Pittsburgh home on August 26 and made off with more than $150,000 in valuables. WTAE reported that the intruders smashed a window with a rock and got inside sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Once in the house, they went through the property and took jewelry and designer handbags.
The Athletic said the stolen items were valued between $150,000 and $250,000. A separate law enforcement source told WPXI that “$157,000 dollars in jewelry, Rolexes and designer bags were reported stolen.” Police are still investigating, and no arrests have been made.
The timing couldn’t be much worse for the rookie offensive tackle. Pittsburgh is preparing to host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, and Iheanachor is expected to be part of that mix after entering the year as the Steelers’ No. 2 right tackle on the depth chart. He also battled an injury during training camp, but he remains on track to begin his NFL career in Week 1.
The Steelers made Iheanachor the 21st overall pick in this year’s NFL draft, and he got to this point through an unusual college path. He began at East Los Angeles College before moving on to Arizona State, where he became one of the program’s top offensive linemen and earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors in 2025.
Pittsburgh drafted him as part of its push to rebuild the offensive line. Now, before he even takes his first regular-season snap, he’s dealing with a burglary that fits a troubling pattern seen around pro sports. Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow and Miami Heat forward Bobby Portis have all had their homes targeted in similar incidents.
For Iheanachor, though, the immediate task is simple: put the burglary behind him and get ready for Sunday.
