Steelers Finally Get Clarity On Joey Porter Jr. Trade Return

The Steelers strategically navigate the Joey Porter Jr. trade, securing valuable draft picks while maintaining a strong defensive lineup without him.

The Joey Porter Jr. trade is now fully locked in for the Steelers.

Porter was active for Dallas’ road game against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football, which was enough to trigger the conditional part of the deal. Pittsburgh will receive the lesser of the two draft picks involved, with the Cowboys sending a 2027 sixth-round pick and a 2028 second-round pick to the Steelers in exchange for Porter. The 2027 pick was tied to Porter dressing for at least two regular-season games, and that condition was met in Week 6.

Porter’s first stretch with Dallas has had its bumps, though not because of his play. He missed the Cowboys’ Week 5 game with an illness, which had some fans wondering if he might hold out again. But he suited up on Sunday night, and that was enough to complete the trade terms.

On the field, Porter has looked like the player Dallas wanted. Over 48 coverage snaps, he has not given up a catch on four targets, according to Pro Football Focus.

Still, that hasn’t translated into clean results for the Cowboys’ defense. In his first game with Dallas in Week 4, the unit allowed 30 points in a tight win.

Then in Week 6, Porter was flagged twice in 36 defensive snaps during Dallas’ 23-13 loss.

For Pittsburgh, though, the present outlook doesn’t scream regret. Jamel Dean turned in a strong performance in his revenge game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 6. Jalen Ramsey also had a standout showing, and rookie Daylen Everrette made his mark with a key interception in Week 6.

As a group, the Steelers allowed just 3.8 yards per pass attempt and 2.5 net yards per pass against Jalon Daniels and the Buccaneers, and they got there without Porter.

Now that general manager Omar Khan has officially secured both picks in the trade, Pittsburgh can put the Porter saga behind it. If Porter keeps playing for Dallas, the Steelers will likely keep getting quality work out of the deal. But for now, the team can move on with its draft compensation in hand.

Aaron Rodgers Had A Ruthless Postgame Moment After Steelers Comeback Win

Aaron Rodgers spent much of Sunday night trading punches in the pocket and in the back-and-forth that followed, helping the Steelers survive a tense road test against Tampa Bay. Pittsburgh needed overtime to finish off a comeback win at Raymond James Stadium, and Rodgers was steady enough to keep them alive after a rough start, throwing for 253 yards with two touchdowns and one interception as the offense found just enough rhythm to get back in the game.

The postgame edge was there, too, after Rodgers had already answered a rookie's trash talk in real time. He later took aim at the field conditions in Tampa, adding another pointed note to a night that had plenty of them. For the Steelers, the result mattered most, but Rodgers made sure the game left a little extra residue beyond the standings. [Read more 🡒]

Steelers Escaped Tampa But One Late Decision Will Be Debated

Pittsburgh left Tampa with a 26-19 overtime win, but the victory came with plenty to sort through on both sides of the ball. The offense never found a smooth rhythm for long stretches, and Jaylen Warrens limited first-half workload stood out in a game where the Steelers often needed more balance to help steady the tempo.

The defense delivered enough high-leverage moments to keep Pittsburgh alive, with interceptions from Jamel Dean and Daylen Everette and sacks from Jaylen Ramsey and Nick Herbig helping shape a tense finish. Still, the late-game management will linger as a talking point, especially after the Steelers had a chance to close it out in regulation and instead left the outcome hanging until overtime. Steelers Win Couldnt Hide One Ugly Concern About This Team

The Steelers escaped Week 6 with a 26-19 overtime win over the Buccaneers, but the first three quarters offered a reminder that the margin for error remains thin. Pittsburgh spent much of the afternoon chasing the game after a sluggish start on both sides of the ball, with Aaron Rodgers forced into 49 pass attempts for 253 yards and the offense leaning on a shorter passing game than the team would prefer.

Tampa Bay also found plenty of early success moving the chains, as rookie quarterback Jalon Daniels kept drives alive on third down before Pittsburgh finally steadied itself. The comeback gives the Steelers a much-needed win, but it does not erase the bigger concern about whether this offense can generate enough explosive plays, or whether Jaylen Warren can provide the kind of impact the team had been getting from him in recent weeks.
