The Turf Transition: From Kentucky Bluegrass to Tahoma 31
The new turf, Tahoma 31 Bermudagrass, will replace the Kentucky bluegrass that has been used in previous years. Developed by Oklahoma State University, Tahoma 31 is renowned for its resilience in cold weather and its ability to withstand heavy use. This makes it an ideal choice for a stadium that hosts multiple games on the same weekend.
Not only does Tahoma 31 hold up better under pressure, but it also recovers quickly after games, a crucial factor for a field shared by both the Steelers and the Pitt Panthers. The decision to switch to this more robust grass is a practical move that addresses years of field-related complaints.
A Logical Move for a High-Traffic Field
