Steelers Face One Paris Question If Sunday Goes Sideways

The Steelers' late arrival in Paris raises concerns over their preparedness for the Saints showdown, with travel strategy potentially in the spotlight if they falter.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ trip to Paris is already under the microscope, and if Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints goes sideways, their travel schedule will be part of the conversation.

Pittsburgh arrived Friday morning after an overnight flight, which left the team with less than two days to get settled before kickoff. New Orleans, by contrast, got to France on Monday and has had several extra days to adjust before the international matchup.

Aaron Rodgers didn’t hide his preference for a different approach. When asked about the timing, he said, per Chris Adamski:

"Of course. And I've said this, I've played in three countries now and each of them we've left on Thursday early evening. It would have been nice one time to come over on a Monday,"

There are obvious complications to a transatlantic trip beyond the flight itself. The six-hour time difference and the need to keep a normal sleep routine can make the adjustment tougher, especially on a short turnaround.

Former Steelers defensive lineman Breiden Fehoko added fuel to the discussion after saying he reached out to several Pittsburgh players to ask about the journey. On his podcast, he described contacting them one by one and asking the same thing each time.

"I've reached out to a couple Steelers players. One by one, called them individually, texted each guy.

Same question: 'Hey, what are your thoughts on the travel? How was the plane ride?'"

Fehoko said on his podcast.

Fehoko said the feedback he got wasn’t glowing. According to him, one player told him, "That plane ride sucked."

He also said some players would have preferred to arrive earlier in the week because they were tired.

None of that guarantees the travel setup will show up on the scoreboard, of course. The Steelers chose this plan deliberately and stuck with their usual preparation routine instead of getting to France several days in advance.

That could look smart if Pittsburgh plays cleanly and handles the Saints. But if the Steelers come up short, the late arrival and shorter acclimation window will almost certainly get picked apart.

New Orleans has already had more time to settle in, while Pittsburgh is dealing with the aftereffects of the overnight flight and the tight schedule. Rodgers and Fehoko both made clear that not everyone loved the arrangement, even if the team has international experience.

If the Steelers win, the flight probably becomes a footnote. If they lose, it may be the first thing people bring up. In the end, Sunday’s result against the Saints will decide whether the travel talk fades or turns into a real issue.

Steelers Defense Faces A Bigger Saints Test Than Fans Realize

The Steelers defense has been trending in the right direction under coordinator Patrick Graham, tightening up just enough to make opponents work for every clean throw. Over the last three games, Pittsburgh has allowed only two passing touchdowns while coming away with three interceptions, a stretch that has helped steady a unit that needed to find its footing.

Sundays trip to New Orleans still brings a different kind of challenge, with Tyler Shough entering Week 7 productive enough to stress a secondary that may not be at full strength. Brandin Echols is out with a hamstring injury, and Jalen Ramsey is working through a wrist issue, which makes the task of slowing Shough and his connection with Chris Olave look a lot less comfortable than the recent numbers suggest. Steelers Face A Risky Alex Highsmith Decision They May Regret

With the NFL trade deadline approaching, the Steelers are at least entertaining the kind of move that can reshape a season in a hurry. According to a report from The Athletics Daniel Popper, the front office is weighing a player-for-player deal involving outside linebacker Alex Highsmith, a notable twist for a defense that has leaned on him as one of its most reliable edge threats while the roster still has other areas needing attention.

The appeal is obvious enough: Pittsburgh could look to address needs in the secondary or at wide receiver if the right partner emerges, and a swap like this would force the team to think beyond one position group. But Highsmith is also a central piece of what the Steelers do up front, so any serious discussion carries real risk for a defense that has relied on his production and consistency while the deadline clock keeps ticking. Steelers Secondary Could Get A Needed Boost Before Saints Game

The Steelers secondary is still waiting on some good news as they head toward Sundays matchup with the Saints, with DeShon Elliott listed as questionable while dealing with a knee issue. Pittsburgh has been juggling injuries in the defensive backfield, including Brandin Echols being out and Sebastian Joseph-Day on injured reserve, so any help would matter as it tries to steady the group.

There is at least a path for Elliott to be available, but it hinges on how his knee holds up in Saturdays practice. The team also has an open roster spot after releasing Rayshawn Jenkins, which gives it some flexibility if it needs to make a move before game day.Mike McCarthy will make the call on Elliotts activation after that final workout, leaving the Steelers with one more thing to monitor before they settle on their defensive backfield against New Orleans.
