Steelers Eye 49ers 120 Million Cut Candidate

As the San Francisco 49ers consider releasing Brandon Aiyuk, the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, and Buffalo Bills weigh their options for boosting depth in their receiving corps.

As the NFL offseason heats up, three teams still in the hunt for wide receiver reinforcements are the Pittsburgh Steelers, Washington Commanders, and Buffalo Bills. Each team has made strides but still has gaps to fill.

The Steelers made headlines by acquiring Michael Pittman Jr., pairing him with DK Metcalf for a formidable duo. However, depth remains a concern, and they could benefit from another reliable target.

Buffalo also made a splash by trading for DJ Moore. Yet, beyond Moore and Khalil Shakir, the options thin out quickly, as Joshua Palmer and Keon Coleman haven’t lived up to expectations.

Washington, meanwhile, is still searching for a solid No. 2 receiver to complement Terry McLaurin. Their recent additions haven't significantly bolstered the lineup, leaving room for improvement.

Enter Brandon Aiyuk, a name circulating as a potential target. The San Francisco 49ers wideout, once a promising playmaker, finds himself on the trading block.

Aiyuk’s journey has been rocky since a significant knee injury in 2024, which led to the 49ers voiding his 2026 guarantees. San Francisco is reportedly trying to trade him before resorting to releasing him, though the return might be minimal.

Aiyuk’s torn ACL sidelined him last season, and with his guarantees voided, his future with the 49ers looks bleak. General Manager John Lynch confirmed the likelihood that Aiyuk has played his last game for San Francisco, calling the situation unfortunate.

While Aiyuk’s current form is uncertain, his potential appeal lies in a supporting role. The Steelers and Bills could use him as a No. 3 receiver, which seems more fitting than expecting him to be a primary option.

Washington, however, might still take a chance on Aiyuk. His connection with Jayden Daniels, a former college teammate, adds an intriguing layer to the Commanders’ interest. Reports suggest that if Aiyuk joins Washington, it would likely be on a one-year deal.

The Steelers had shown interest in Aiyuk before his contract extension with the Niners, hinting at a possible reunion. While he may not be the definitive solution for Washington’s receiving corps, the Commanders appear to be the frontrunners for his services in 2026.
