Steelers Catch A Break As Bengals Passing Game Takes Early Hit

The Bengals face a challenge to their wide receiver lineup as they prepare for the Steelers, with coach Zac Taylor detailing plans to adapt to Andrei Iosivas' absence.

The Bengals are heading into Sunday’s AFC North matchup in Pittsburgh without another piece of their passing game. Andrei Iosivas has been placed on injured reserve after tearing a ligament in his thumb, a setback Cincinnati coach Zac Taylor confirmed during Wednesday’s press conference.

Taylor said Iosivas had surgery Wednesday morning. There’s no exact return date yet, but ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the 26-year-old is expected to miss four to six weeks.

That puts Cincinnati in a tricky spot early in the 2026 season, but Taylor made it clear the offense plans to keep moving. The Bengals are set to face the Steelers, Jaguars, Dolphins and Ravens over the next month, and the coach said the team has enough pieces to absorb the loss.

"Several guys can step up, whether it's in the receiver room, tight end room. There are a lot of ways we're gonna have to fill that," Taylor said.

"We have guys that will step up. They're gonna be given more opportunities.

We expect those guys to step up and fill those shoes."

One possible adjustment, as The Athletic’s Paul Dehner Jr. noted, is a heavier dose of multi-tight end looks while Iosivas is sidelined. Even with that wrinkle, the Bengals will still lean on Joe Burrow’s top targets, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, to carry the passing attack.

Iosivas had been productive in 2025, finishing with 33 catches for 435 yards and two touchdowns. His career numbers show a steady role since entering the league: 15 catches for 116 yards and four scores in 2023, 36 receptions for 479 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, and 33 catches for 435 yards and two touchdowns last season. In 2026, he has three receptions for 19 yards in two games.

Steelers Suddenly Have A Trade Decision Giants Fans Just Created

Jaxson Darts knee injury has added a fresh layer of uncertainty to the Giants quarterback situation, and that ripple effect reaches all the way to Pittsburgh. The Steelers are carrying four quarterbacks on their active roster, which gives them more flexibility than most teams at the position and puts Mason Rudolph back into the conversation as a possible trade chip if another club decides it needs help.

For the Steelers, the question is whether keeping Rudolph provides more value as insurance or whether this is the kind of moment to turn a surplus into future draft capital. The Giants, facing an uncertain timeline for Darts return, are the most obvious club to watch, with speculation already linking them to Rudolph as a depth answer and a possible offer centered on a conditional 2027 sixth-round pick. Steelers Rookie Is Making Himself Hard To Ignore Early

Robert Spears-Jennings has already found a way to stand out for the Steelers, even with his role mostly coming on special teams. Through the first two weeks of the 2026 season, the rookie safety leads the league with seven special teams tackles, a strong early sign that he is quickly earning trust in Pittsburgh where every hidden-yardage play tends to matter.

Special teams coach Danny Crossman has taken notice of Spears-Jennings effort and impact, even with limited defensive snaps, and he has also had reason to mention running back Eli Heidenreich after a 26-yard kick return against the Patriots. For a Steelers team always looking for young players who can carve out value in any phase, those kinds of contributions can turn into real opportunities before long. [Read more 🡒]

Steelers Suddenly Have A Health Concern Before Bengals Showdown

The injury report looked a little busier than the Steelers would have liked this week as they prepared for their Week 3 matchup with the Bengals. Jaylen Warren was limited in practice because of a shoulder injury, while Jamel Dean did not participate at all because of an ankle issue, adding more uncertainty to a roster already dealing with a handful of absences and limitations.

Jalen Ramsey, Rico Dowdle, Cole Holcomb, Michael Pittman Jr. and Joey Porter Jr. were also among the names either missing practice or working on a limited basis for various injury or personal reasons. For a Pittsburgh team heading into a key AFC North game, the concern is not just who is on the field Wednesday, but which of those players can get through the week well enough to be available when the Bengals arrive.
