The Pittsburgh Steelers wrapped one of their final training camp practices with a full-blown melee, and it didn’t take long to find the spark.
Rookie safety Robert Spears-Jennings delivered a big hit on wide receiver Max Hurleman during 11-on-11 work, and that moment set off the chaos that followed. What began as a hard play quickly turned into a red zone fight with the offense and defense both piling in.
Tight end Lance Mason, who the Steelers claimed off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks last week, jumped into the fray after taking issue with Spears-Jennings’ hit. From there, the whole scene escalated fast, with both sides mixing it up in the middle of practice.
Tight end Jaheim Bell also got involved, going after safety DeShon Elliott as the scrum grew larger. The fight was so wide-reaching that nearly the media got caught up in it too.
Earlier in the day, inside linebacker Elandon Roberts was already bringing plenty of heat in one of his first practices back with the team after agreeing to a one-year deal earlier in the week. He laid a couple of notable hits on running back Travis Homer and wide receiver Levi Wentz, helping set a physical tone before things boiled over.
ESPN’s Brooke Pryor also reported that offensive guard Mason McCormick had been "chirping" Roberts for a coupe of reps leading up to the fight, adding another layer to a tense finish at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe.

The preseason score line may not mean much in the standings, but it did offer a tidy reminder of what the Jets can look like when their passing game gets rolling early. Geno Smith was sharp from the start against Pittsburgh, hitting all seven throws on the opening drive and finishing with 65 yards through the air while working the ball to Garrett Wilson and Adonai Mitchell.
For Steelers fans, the more meaningful part was the overall feel of the game, one in which New York controlled the night and walked away with a 17-0 win.
