Steelers Are Suddenly Tied To A Massive WR Deadline Gamble

Could Garrett Wilson be the missing piece the Steelers need to elevate their offense, or is this just offseason chatter?

The Steelers are 6-2, the bye week is here, and one of the louder rumors around Pittsburgh is a swing for the fences at wide receiver. The name that keeps popping up is Garrett Wilson.

Jason La Canfora stirred the pot on X by responding, "Stay tuned," after Dave Dameshek wrote, "Color me...INTRIGUED," following La Canfora’s initial link between Wilson and Pittsburgh. That alone was enough to make the idea feel worth watching, especially with the November 10 trade deadline getting closer.

La Canfora laid out the case in a November 2 interview, pointing to the kind of offense Wilson could help unlock in Pittsburgh.

“I'd keep an eye on the Pittsburgh Steelers. I'm told they're being pretty ambitious behind the scenes and would love to add another playmaker," La Canfora said.

"DK Metcalf has some limitations in terms of the route tree he runs, but if you were to add someone like Garrett Wilson to that offense, it starts to get really interesting. With the tight ends they have, a running back like Jaylen Warren who can catch a lot of passes, and Metcalf stretching the field on go routes, adding a receiver like Wilson would give them another dynamic dimension.

That could be a very intriguing offense.”

The problem for anyone imagining Wilson in black and gold is that the Jets have been saying the opposite. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on October 31 that a "well-placed source" said there was "no way" Wilson was moved before the deadline. Schefter also said Wilson told reporters last week "no" when asked if he will or has asked for a trade, per SNY’s Connor Hughes.

Even with that, La Canfora’s comments suggest the conversation may not be completely dead.

Wilson has been productive enough to make any team think hard about him. Through eight games this season, he has 527 yards and three touchdowns on 43 catches. That kind of production is why he’s being viewed as a top-10 receiver, if not better.

The Jets, though, are sitting at 2-6 and still have plenty of draft capital to work with, including three first-round picks in the 2027 NFL Draft. They also have a receiver who signed a four-year extension worth $130 million in July 2025, which makes moving him a major decision rather than a casual one.

There’s also the Aaron Rodgers factor. Wilson and Rodgers were teammates with the Jets in 2023 and 2024, but their relationship apparently never clicked. The Athletic’s Zach Rosenblatt reported last year that the two "weren’t exactly the best of friends," by the end of their final season together, and that they, "took subtle shots at each other in press conferences."

That matters because any deal for Wilson would cost a premium, likely at least one first-round pick and more. For Pittsburgh, that kind of price only gets harder to justify if Wilson and Rodgers are not on the same page.

So while the Steelers have been linked to multiple receivers and La Canfora has kept the Wilson idea alive, it still feels like a long shot for now.

George Pickens Is Reminding Steelers Fans Why Pittsburgh Moved On

George Pickens has given the Cowboys enough flashes this season to keep the conversation about his talent alive, but the old concerns that followed him out of Pittsburgh have not gone away. The wide receiver was traded from the Steelers two years ago, and the move always carried the sense that the on-field upside was being weighed against the off-field headaches that had become part of the package.

Those worries are resurfacing in Dallas, where Pickens has also been managing a shoulder injury while trying to settle in. For Steelers fans, it is a familiar reminder of why the organization chose to move on: the production was real, but so were the frustrations, and the latest chapter suggests the same questions are still attached to his game. T.J. Watt Just Added More Weight To A Familiar Browns Problem

The Steelers Week 8 win over Cleveland was another reminder of how quickly T.J. Watt can tilt a game. Pittsburgh rolled to a 27-6 victory, and Watt was again at the center of it, leading the defense with 2.0 sacks as the Steelers kept building on a strong start to the season.

For the Browns, the frustration is becoming familiar whenever Watt lines up across from them. His latest impact only adds to a long-running problem for Cleveland, and it comes as Pittsburgh continues to lean on his production while sitting at 6-2. Watt has been a steady force all year, and the Browns are just the latest team to be left dealing with the aftermath. [Read more 🡒]

Steelers Fans Are Asking If This 6-2 Start Feels Different

The Steelers head into their bye week at 6-2, and for once the conversation around a strong start does not feel like it is automatically drifting toward the usual cautionary tale. There is still plenty to sort through, especially with injuries and a demanding schedule ahead, but this group has given fans a reason to wonder whether the early record is more than a temporary surge.

What makes the discussion interesting is the sense that this team may be built a little differently than some recent Steelers squads that flashed early and then faded when the season tightened. The next stretch will say a lot about whether Pittsburgh can keep stacking wins and turn a promising first half into something that lasts into January. [Read more 🡒]
