The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for a new look next season, with changes spanning from the coaching staff to the roster. Yet, in true Steelers fashion, their defensive principles are likely to remain a cornerstone. In a bid to bolster their safety depth, they've brought in a familiar face from the Green Bay Packers, Darnell Savage Jr.
Veteran safety Darnell Savage Jr. is set to sign with the Steelers, as confirmed by his agent, Seth Katz. Katz shared that Savage is eager to join the Steelers for the 2026 season.
Savage spent the first five years of his career with the Packers, playing four of those seasons alongside Aaron Rodgers. While Rodgers' future remains uncertain, Savage will certainly find some familiar faces in Pittsburgh if Rodgers makes a move there. During his tenure with the Packers, Savage was a reliable presence, appearing in 72 games and starting 69.
After his stint in Green Bay, Savage inked a three-year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars but was released after two seasons. He then had a brief run with the Washington Commanders, appearing in eight games before being released in December 2025.
Savage is poised to enhance a safety unit that already features Deshon Elliot and Sebastian Castro. Jalen Ramsey, who played some safety last season, might shift back to cornerback, leaving room for Savage to make his mark.
The Steelers have been active this offseason, making strategic moves to strengthen their secondary. With these additions, they aim to build on last season’s defensive successes, setting the stage for a promising year ahead.
