Anderson, a former seventh-round pick, already made real progress last season. He started seven games at left guard and also handled work as an extra tight end in the Steelers’ jumbo packages, showing the kind of versatility that has made him valuable across three seasons in Pittsburgh.
That flexibility is part of what makes his situation tricky. Anderson has played as a swing tackle, a blocking tight end and now appears set to settle into a starting role along the offensive line. He’s no longer just a backup, but he also doesn’t fit neatly into one box.

Herbig already got his deal, signing a four-year extension worth up to $100 million with $42 million guaranteed. Benton, meanwhile, is still trying to land his own extension, with free agency becoming a more realistic possibility if a deal doesn’t come together.
The Steelers have also shown plenty of faith in the 2023 draft class. Along with Herbig’s extension, the team signed Darnell Washington to a new deal, another sign that this group is one Pittsburgh clearly values.
If Anderson and the Steelers do get something done, it may not be a difficult negotiation. Four years has become the standard length for these extensions in Pittsburgh, and if Anderson is looking for that kind of deal, the price could land somewhere between $3 million and $8 million per season before the market has a chance to move.
