Michael Proctor, a Murray State legend and former New England Patriots quarterback, has passed away at the age of 58. His loss is deeply felt across the football community, especially by those who watched him dominate at the college level and persevere through the professional ranks.
Proctor's name is etched into Murray State history for good reason. Standing 6-foot-4 and weighing 210 pounds, he was the kind of quarterback who commanded attention every time he stepped on the field.
A four-year starter for the Racers, Proctor didn’t just play the position-he owned it. He threw for a then-conference record 9,886 yards, earning All-Ohio Valley Conference honors twice and being named the league’s Player of the Year in 1989.
That kind of production doesn’t just happen; it’s the result of talent, preparation, and a relentless drive to compete.
Despite his impressive college résumé, Proctor went undrafted in 1990. But that didn’t stop him.
He signed with the New England Patriots as a rookie free agent, earning a shot at the NFL the hard way-by grinding his way onto a roster.
