Pat Freiermuth Is Becoming A Bigger Part Of Pittsburghs Answer

With the Steelers' receiving corps weakened by injuries, tight end Pat Freiermuth is rising to the challenge as a key offensive weapon.

The Steelers left Week 5 with a 34-22 win over the Indianapolis Colts and, just as importantly, another sign that their offense may be settling in. Pittsburgh has now topped 30 points twice in five games, and Aaron Rodgers has thrown at least three touchdown passes in three straight contests.

Even with uneven play at wide receiver, the offense has found ways to move. Rodgers and Jaylen Warren have helped carry that load, but Pat Freiermuth is the name that keeps demanding attention.

The tight end delivered in a big way against Indianapolis, finishing with five catches for 44 yards and two touchdowns. In a game where the Steelers needed answers amid a wave of injuries, Freiermuth gave them exactly that.

He’s long been one of the more gifted athletes at his position, but the offense hasn’t always treated him like a centerpiece. That has changed this season. Through five games, Freiermuth has drawn at least four targets every week, and against the Colts he was targeted seven times.

That usage says plenty. The Steelers are making him a priority, Rodgers trusts him, and when the pressure rises, the ball keeps finding him.

The most telling moment came in the red zone. Both touchdowns came inside the 20-yard line, but the second-quarter score on the 1-yard line showed just how much the Steelers are willing to lean into Freiermuth’s matchup value.

Rather than bringing out jumbo personnel and trying to bulldoze the ball in, Pittsburgh spread the field with an empty set and five receivers split wide. That left Freiermuth isolated one-on-one with a Colts linebacker right at the line of scrimmage.

He won the rep cleanly. A quick stutter step created the separation Rodgers needed, and the touchdown stretched Pittsburgh’s lead to 14-6.

The Steelers are still dealing with more setbacks. Roman Wilson could miss time after dislocating a finger in Week 5, and Michael Pittman Jr. was placed on Injured Reserve, which will keep him out for at least three more weeks.

But even as the hits keep piling up, Pittsburgh can point to Freiermuth as a reason for optimism.

Derrick Henry Has Opponents Talking About Him In A Very Strange Way

Derrick Henry has a way of making even veteran coaches talk about him in uncommon terms, and Mike Tomlin added to that on Sunday Night Football. During the broadcast, Tomlin steered clear of Henrys name and kept referring to him as The Big Runner, a telling sign of the respect and concern the Steelers coach associates with facing one of the leagues most punishing backs.

Tomlin later made the point more directly on social media, underscoring how much Henrys presence has come to mean in these matchups. Pittsburghs teams have still managed a winning record against him, but Henrys individual production against the Steelers has been strong enough to keep him in the center of the conversation every time these teams line up. Steelers Face A Week 6 Twist That Could Change Everything

The Steelers kept their momentum going with a win over the Colts even while the wide receiver room was dealing with injuries, and the timing of that matters as the schedule tightens. Jaylen Warren has been doing plenty of the heavy lifting in the backfield and looks positioned to keep carrying a major share of the offense, which gives Pittsburgh a steady foundation at a time when the AFC North is as crowded as ever, with every team in the division sitting on a winning record.

Now the attention shifts to Tampa Bay, where the Steelers are favored heading into a game that already comes with some quarterback uncertainty on the other side. Pittsburgh does not need much encouragement to understand what is at stake in a week like this, especially with the division race so compressed and every result carrying extra weight, but the betting market may not stay put for long once the Buccaneers starting picture becomes clearer. Patrick Graham Just Gave Steelers Fans A Different Look At Game Day

As the Steelers get deeper into the season, defensive coordinator Patrick Graham is offering a glimpse at what still fuels him on game day. He said part of the appeal of calling plays from the sideline is the chance to be down on the field, a setting that brings back memories of his playing days and adds a different edge to the work of getting ready each week.

Graham also made it clear he is not anywhere near the end of the line yet, with retirement still a few years off. For him, the anticipation of game day remains the draw, and even the routine of watching college football as part of his prep can sharpen that excitement in ways Steelers fans can appreciate.
