Drew Allar gave NFL training camp one of its strangest moments of the offseason, and it came on a drill that usually doesn’t end with a quarterback firing the ball clean over the target.
In a practice video making the rounds, the Pittsburgh Steelers rookie was working through a common passing exercise that asked him to throw into one of three pockets on a net. His teammates were hitting their spots.
Allar was not. His pass sailed over the net entirely, turning a routine camp rep into a viral blooper.
The reaction online came fast, and plenty of fans went straight to the Aaron Rodgers comparisons. One Jaguars account summed up the moment with: “Can’t say I’ve ever seen a quarterback just outright miss the net,” followed by, “Drew Allar, take a bow.”
Fans had their fun from there. “When you try to act like Aaron Rodgers, you typically won’t get the same results,” one user wrote.
Another piled on with: “Bro thinks he’s legit Aaron Rodger’s 🤣 what a bum”
“But but he’s 6’5! 😂” someone else joked.
Not everybody joined the pile-on, though. One fan pointed out that the drill appeared to involve no-look throws.
“Cutting some slack because it appears they are doing no look passes,” they wrote. “All the QBs are looking right when they throw back to the left.
Yes he missed, but that’s why it’s called training and drills.”
Another comment made the same point more simply: “it looks like they all trying to do the no look throw ngl”
Allar, selected by the Steelers in the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft after a standout career at Penn State, entered camp as a developmental quarterback behind Aaron Rodgers while competing with Will Howard for positioning on the depth chart.
And while training camp clips can be misleading, this one was hard to ignore. Quarterbacks spend August working through mechanics and timing, but an NFL quarterback missing an oversized practice net is still the kind of miss that gets everybody talking.
