Steelers Eyeing Potential QB of the Future at NFL Combine
In the bustling environment of the 2026 NFL Combine, the Pittsburgh Steelers have turned their attention to Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, engaging in a formal meeting to explore possibilities for the upcoming draft. This move highlights the Steelers' ongoing quest to bolster their quarterback depth, and Allar's name is one to watch.
Meeting with Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy at the Indiana Convention Center, Allar expressed enthusiasm about the interaction. "I really liked that staff," Allar shared. "Meeting Coach McCarthy in person was a great experience, and I'm eager to learn more about them."
Hailing from Medina, Ohio, Allar is no stranger to the AFC North dynamics. Growing up near Cleveland, he's well-acquainted with the fierce rivalries that define the division.
"The rivalry in the AFC North is intense," Allar noted. "It’s reminiscent of high school rivalries, with teams like the Browns, Steelers, Ravens, and Bengals always in fierce competition."
This meeting marked the Steelers' initial conversation with Allar, who is recovering from a broken ankle that cut short his 2025 season at Penn State. Despite not participating in college all-star games due to his injury, Allar is now healthy and ready to showcase his skills.
While he won't be partaking in athletic testing, Allar is set to throw at the combine on Saturday. "If I had to play today, I feel ready," he confidently stated.
During his tenure at Penn State, Allar started for three years, displaying notable talent. His senior season was limited to six games due to injury, yet he managed to complete 64.8% of his passes, amassing 1,110 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. Over his college career, Allar accumulated 7,402 passing yards, 61 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions across 45 games.
Initially a top recruit, Allar chose to stay at Penn State for another year, aiming to enhance his draft prospects. Currently ranked No. 114 on the NFL Mock Draft Database consensus big board, he's projected as a fourth-round pick. Whether this gamble pays off remains to be seen, but his journey is one filled with potential and promise.
