DK Metcalf had apparently written the ending to his own love story long before it began.
After watching Normani’s “Motivation” video, he told then-Seattle Seahawks teammate Russell Wilson that he was going to marry her. Wilson and Ciara eventually helped make that happen, setting up the pair and helping launch a romance that became public in 2023.
What started as a celebrity matchmaking project turned into something much more personal. By the time the couple reached their engagement, Normani had already spoken openly about how much Metcalf meant to her, and how their relationship had carried her through a hard stretch in her life.
Ciara had been pushing the idea for a while before Normani finally agreed to meet Metcalf. In a 2024 Apple Music interview, Normani said Ciara kept bringing him up and then invited her to a party where he would be.
“She was really adamant about coming [to the party],” Normani said. “I just knew it was something else because she was very adamant, and when I was on the way, she was like, ‘Oh yeah, your boy’s gonna be there.’”
Wilson was doing his part on the other side of the setup with his then-Seahawks teammate.
“They was playing cupid, but it worked,” Normani said.
The relationship first sparked public dating rumors in June 2022, when the two were spotted together. They didn’t confirm anything right away, waiting more than a year before making it official.
That confirmation came in July 2023, when Normani posted a photo of Metcalf kissing her cheek while they attended the wedding of his former teammate Tyler Lockett. Wilson also shared video of the couple dancing at the celebration.
As the relationship became less private, Normani also opened up about what Metcalf meant to her during one of the toughest periods of her life. While working on her debut solo album, “Dopamine,” she was dealing with the reality that both of her parents had cancer diagnoses.
Normani told Rolling Stone in 2024 that finding a relationship where her love was returned “feels good.”
She also called Metcalf “a blessing” during her Apple Music interview.
“He’s such a light for me, especially just like in my lowest points,” she said.
Normani has also described Metcalf as “definitely an answered prayer,” and their relationship even made its way into her music. She said Metcalf inspired songs on “Dopamine,” including “Lights On.”
The two have shown a lighter side, too. In a 2024 Elle interview, Normani prank-called Metcalf and started reciting lyrics from “Wild Side,” which led to a puzzled response from him: “Kordei, what you talking about?”
Metcalf proposed in Houston and brought both families together for the moment.
“It was my sister’s Spring Break, and [I] just thought about getting the whole family together for a big kumbaya and joining our families with the ring,” he later explained.
The engagement became public in March 2025, not long after Metcalf was traded from Seattle to Pittsburgh. Normani showed up at his introductory Steelers press conference, and Metcalf pointed off camera toward his fiancée and said, “She right there. Hold that rock up, baby,”
It was a low-key reveal for a relationship the pair had mostly kept out of the spotlight.
Years after Wilson and Ciara decided their friends belonged together, Metcalf and Normani were headed toward marriage - and the prediction Metcalf made before they ever met suddenly looked a lot less like a joke and a lot more like a preview.

Steelers Let A Young Starter Slip Away Over One Familiar Rule
Joey Porter Jr. had become one of the more intriguing young pieces on Pittsburghs defense, but contract talks never moved far enough to keep him in black and gold. The Steelers put a long-term extension on the table that averaged $28 million per year, yet the structure stopped short of guaranteeing money beyond the first year, a familiar line for a team that has long guarded itself against heavy long-term risk.
That approach eventually pushed Porter into a holdout and then out the door entirely, with Pittsburgh sending him to Dallas for a second-round pick and a conditional sixth-rounder. The Cowboys are expecting him to help once he gets past a back injury, while the Steelers are left to wonder whether staying loyal to one organizational rule cost them a young starter with real value. Steelers Suddenly Have A Defensive Problem They May Need To Solve Fast
The Steelers defensive depth took a hit in Week 4, and it came in two different places at once. Derrick Harmon was carted off with a foot injury, while Jamel Dean was also slowed by an ankle issue and later seen in a walking boot, leaving Pittsburgh bracing for the possibility that both players could be sidelined for multiple weeks.
For a defense built on keeping pressure on opponents and surviving long stretches of the season, the timing is less than ideal. The staff is already weighing ways to cover Deans absence, with internal options and outside additions both on the table, and the next few days could shape how quickly the Steelers stabilize a unit that suddenly looks thinner than expected. Steelers Tackle Panic May Be Missing The Bigger Long Term Story
The Steelers front has become an early talking point because the pass protection has been under real stress, with 13 sacks allowed through four games and a pressure rate that has left little room for comfort. Still, the line picture is not as simple as a weekly panic over the tackles, because Troy Fautanu has settled in at left tackle and shown steady improvement, giving Pittsburgh at least one spot where the trend line is moving the right way.
Max Iheanachors rookie season has been more uneven, but the first-round pick remains part of the long-term answer at right tackle even with some growing pains along the way. For a team trying to stabilize its offense, the bigger question may be whether the Steelers are looking at a temporary protection problem or a young tackle group that could matter more in the months ahead than it has in the early going.
