The Arizona Cardinals are inching closer to a decision in their head coaching search, and the picture is starting to come into focus. After parting ways with Jonathan Gannon at the end of the 2025 season, the organization has cast a wide net-and now, they’ve narrowed it down to a few key names.
According to reports, three candidates have emerged as frontrunners for the job: former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris, Jaguars defensive coordinator Anthony Campanile, and Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur. All three have already interviewed with the Cardinals, and Campanile has reportedly been brought in for a second round of discussions-always a strong sign of serious interest.
Each candidate brings a different flavor to the table.
Raheem Morris is the most experienced of the bunch, with previous head coaching stints and a long résumé as a respected defensive coordinator. He’s known league-wide for his leadership and defensive acumen, and while there hasn’t been a ton of buzz linking him directly to the Cardinals' top job, he did sit down for an in-person interview.
That connection could end up leading to a different role-there’s growing chatter that Morris could be in the mix for the team’s defensive coordinator position if he’s not tapped as head coach. That would still be a significant addition to the staff, especially for a defense that’s been in flux.
On the other end of the spectrum are Campanile and LaFleur-two rising stars in the coaching ranks who’ve made strong impressions this season.
Campanile has helped guide Jacksonville’s defense into one of the more aggressive, high-energy units in the AFC. His approach has earned him a second interview with Arizona, signaling that the front office sees real potential in his leadership. He’s known for his intensity and ability to connect with players-traits that could serve him well in a head coaching role, especially for a young team like the Cardinals.
Then there’s Mike LaFleur, who’s had a strong year steering the Rams' offense. He’s still in the mix for a Super Bowl run, with L.A. preparing to face the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game.
LaFleur has been instrumental in getting the most out of that offense, and his creativity and ability to adapt have not gone unnoticed. Arizona is reportedly looking to line up a second interview with him as well.
Also still in the conversation is Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver, who’s scheduled for a second interview. While he hasn’t been mentioned quite as prominently as the other three, the fact that he’s getting a follow-up meeting suggests he’s very much in play.
It’s been a deliberate process for the Cardinals-and understandably so. This hire is going to shape the next phase of their rebuild, and they can’t afford to get it wrong. Whether they go with the experienced hand in Morris, the defensive energy of Campanile, the offensive mind of LaFleur, or a surprise in Weaver, the decision is coming soon.
The clock is ticking in Arizona, and all signs point to a resolution in the near future. Stay tuned.
