Bills Hire Former Steelers Coach for Key Role on Bradys Staff

The Bills turn to a familiar face with a wealth of experience to strengthen their offensive line coaching staff.

The Buffalo Bills are bringing back a familiar face to help anchor their offensive line, hiring veteran coach Pat Meyer as their new offensive line coach under head coach Joe Brady.

For Meyer, 53, this marks a return to Buffalo, where he previously served as an offensive assistant during the 2015 and 2016 seasons. Since then, he’s built a deep résumé across the league, developing a reputation as a hands-on technician with a strong background in both line play and the run game.

Meyer’s coaching journey started in the college ranks, where he spent several years as a strength and conditioning coach before transitioning to offensive line coaching at Colorado State in 2008. That move set the tone for a steady climb up the coaching ladder. By 2013, he was in the NFL with the Chicago Bears as an assistant offensive line coach, staying there for two seasons.

His first full-time offensive line coach role came with the Chargers in 2017, where he also handled run game coordinator duties. That dual role gave Meyer a broader influence on game planning and helped shape the physical identity of the Chargers’ offense through 2019. He then took his expertise to Carolina, holding the same position with the Panthers from 2020 to 2021.

Most recently, Meyer spent the past three seasons in Pittsburgh, coaching the Steelers' offensive line from 2022 through 2025. During his time there, he worked with a young, evolving unit and helped guide their development through a transitional period on offense.

Now, he reunites with a Bills organization that’s looking to retool its offensive identity under Joe Brady, who took over as head coach. Meyer’s familiarity with the franchise, combined with his extensive experience across multiple systems, should be a valuable asset as Buffalo looks to reinforce its protection schemes and establish a more consistent ground game.

This hire signals a clear intent from the Bills: they’re investing in the trenches. And with Meyer’s track record of building cohesive, physical offensive lines, he could be a key piece in helping Buffalo take the next step offensively.
