Aaron Rodgers Sent A Clear Message After Steelers Statement Win

A tribute to a coaching legend highlights a big win for the Steelers as Aaron Rodgers finds his groove with help from the offensive line.

Aaron Rodgers didn’t just leave Indianapolis with a win. He left with a nod to Mike Tomlin.

After the Steelers’ 34-22 Week 6 victory over the Colts, Rodgers showed up to his postgame press conference wearing a shirt that read “DGBTTF,” a line he said stands for “don’t get beat to the flat.” Asked whether the message was aimed at Indianapolis’ defense, Rodgers made it clear it was something else entirely.

“No it's not a warning,” Rodgers said. “It's an ode to Mike T. He used to always say, 'don't get beat to the flat.'”

The gesture fit a day that looked a lot more like the Rodgers Pittsburgh has been waiting for. The 42-year-old has been up and down in his final season before retirement, flashing in Week 1 against the Atlanta Falcons and again in Week 3 against the Cincinnati Bengals, then running into trouble against the New England Patriots in Week 2 and the Cleveland Browns in Week 4.

The difference has often come down to the men in front of him. When Pittsburgh’s offensive line has held up, Rodgers has had room to operate.

When it hasn’t, the offense has sputtered. Against Cleveland, he was sacked five times and never really got comfortable.

Against Indianapolis, the protection was far better.

Rodgers took just one sack and spent most of the afternoon working from a clean pocket. He opened the game 11-for-11 and finished 22-of-31 for 235 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions.

That efficiency helped Pittsburgh notch its first two-score win of the season and its first since Week 15 of the 2025 campaign.

The Steelers needed every bit of it. With Michael Pittman Jr. on IR because of his foot injury, and with Roman Wilson (hand) and Ben Skowronek (calf) both out in the second half because of injuries, Pittsburgh had to find production from multiple places.

It did. Rodgers was sharp, Jaylen Warren, Pat Freiermuth and Germie Bernard all turned in big days, and the offensive line won most of its matchups against Indianapolis’ defensive front.

For the Steelers, it added up to what might have been their most complete showing of the year. If they want to stay in the mix for an AFC North title or a Wild Card spot, this is the standard they’ll need to keep meeting.

Jaylen Warren Just Gave Steelers Fans A New Reason To Believe

The Steelers left Indianapolis with a much-needed win and a 3-2 record, but the bigger takeaway might have been the way Jaylen Warren changed the feel of the offense. The running back was everywhere in the victory over the Colts, piling up more than 100 rushing yards and giving Pittsburgh a playmaking spark it has been searching for through the early part of the season.

Warrens afternoon stood out even before you get to the historical context, because he kept turning routine snaps into chunk gains and forcing the Colts to account for him in multiple ways. His production was the kind that can reshape how a coaching staff thinks about its backfield usage, and it also gave Steelers fans a fresh reason to believe this offense might have another gear waiting to be unlocked. Steelers Need A Response As Colts Bring Real Momentum

The Steelers return home this week for a matchup with Indianapolis that already feels like an early pivot point in the season. Pittsburgh is back at Acrisure Stadium for a Sunday afternoon meeting with a Colts team arriving at 2-2 and carrying a little more confidence after winning its last two games, while the Steelers are trying to steady themselves after a loss to Cleveland.

For a team still searching for consistency, the setting matters as much as the record. The inactive lists will shape the final look of both rosters, and with kickoff set for 1 p.m. ET, this is the kind of game that can quickly tell you whether Pittsburgh is ready to match momentum or still trying to create it. Steelers Finally Got A Breakout They Desperately Needed In This Win

For a Steelers offense that has spent much of the season searching for a spark, Jaylen Warren provided the kind of burst that can change the mood around a team in a hurry. Pittsburgh beat the Indianapolis Colts to move to 3-2, and Warren was central to it, giving the Steelers a dynamic day that also included useful work from Pat Freiermuth, Germie Bernard and Asante Samuel.

The bigger question is whether that breakthrough can carry over, because the win still came with an uneasy reminder on the other side of the ball. Pittsburghs pass rush, despite the talent on the edge, never consistently took control, leaving the defense to lean on a lone sack and a few scattered stops rather than the sort of pressure that usually defines this group.
