Aaron Rodgers is already talking like the Steelers have more than a playoff win in them.
After guiding Pittsburgh to an AFC North title in his first season with the team last year, Rodgers is back for another run, even while saying this will be his last. And when asked whether the Steelers can be real Super Bowl contenders this season, he didn’t hesitate.
“ Yeah, of course. Of course. That’s why I came back, because I believe in the guys,” Rodgers said.
He doubled down on the roster, too.
“I like the roster as a whole,” Rodgers added. “We have good veteran leadership.
It’s just about going out there and doing it. I feel like the AFC is very deep.
Even our own division has a number of teams with Super Bowl aspirations, which is great.”
Rodgers’ confidence didn’t exactly land the same way with everybody. A chunk of NFL fans on social media pushed back hard on the idea that this Steelers group is ready to make that kind of leap.
“Dude is completely whacked in the head if he believes this,” one fan posted on X.
“Delusional,” someone else put bluntly.
“Karen Rodgers always good for a laugh…. HEY FLORIO….want a better story?
How many days are going to go by since his wedding before we see a picture of his wife?” someone else posted.
The Steelers did win the AFC North with Rodgers under center last season, but their run ended in the Wild Card round against the Houston Texans. Now Rodgers is back, still talking like there’s a bigger finish waiting. He’s already won one Super Bowl with new Steelers coach Mike McCarthy, though it came against Pittsburgh.
