Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Konnor Griffin made a splash in the Grapefruit League, shaking off a slow start to spring training with a standout performance against the Boston Red Sox. Griffin powered the Pirates to a commanding 16-7 victory, showcasing his potential with two home runs and four RBIs at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, Florida.
Griffin, MLB’s top prospect, wasted no time making an impact. In the second inning, he launched a 375-foot two-run homer off All-Star pitcher Ranger Suarez, setting the tone for the day.
But he wasn’t done yet. In the fourth inning, he took advantage of a hanging breaking ball from Seth Martinez, crushing it 440 feet for another two-run shot.
Postgame, the 19-year-old phenom remained humble, reflecting on his performance with a smile. “It just felt good to be out here.
Got some good swings off. Kind of smoked them, so that was a great win for us,” Griffin said.
He emphasized the hard work the team has been putting in this spring, which is clearly paying off.
Griffin credited his success to his approach and a bit of good fortune, acknowledging the hard outs he faced in a previous game against the Philadelphia Phillies. He stressed the importance of consistency in baseball, noting that perseverance pays off. “Just staying the same person, showing up, continuing to work, it will all work out for you,” he added.
On Tuesday, it certainly did.
