The Los Angeles Dodgers are at it again, showing that their pursuit of excellence never takes a back seat. Even with an already impressive outfield lineup featuring Kyle Tucker, Teoscar Hernando, and Andy Pages, the Dodgers are keeping their eyes peeled for additional talent.
Their latest move? Snagging Jack Suwinski, a former Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder, off waivers.
Suwinski is an intriguing addition as Spring Training kicks off. Once a promising player for the Pirates, his 2023 season was a standout.
In 144 games, he posted a 2.1 bWAR, belted 26 home runs, and hit 21 doubles, all contributing to a solid .793 OPS. Not bad for a player who showed early potential with 19 home runs and 11 doubles in his rookie season in 2022.
However, the road hasn’t been smooth for Suwinski. The following seasons saw a significant dip in performance.
In 2024, he struggled with a -1.7 bWAR over 88 games, hitting just .182 with a .588 OPS. Things didn’t improve in 2025, as his average fell to .147 with a .534 OPS in 59 games.
These struggles ultimately led to his release by the Pirates ahead of the 2026 Spring Training.
Now with the Dodgers, Suwinski has a chance to rediscover his form. While he may not immediately secure a spot on the MLB roster, the potential for him to recapture some of that 2023 magic is there. His left-handed power is tantalizing, and if he can tap into that upside, he could become a valuable depth piece for Los Angeles.
In typical Dodgers fashion, they’re making calculated moves that could pay dividends. Suwinski’s journey with the team will be one to watch as the season unfolds.
