Penguins Add Forward Depth with Ryan McAllister Signing
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins are adding some offensive depth to their lineup, announcing the signing of forward Ryan McAllister to an AHL contract for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
McAllister brings a solid base of professional experience, having skated in 72 AHL games-all with the Charlotte Checkers. While his numbers this season were modest-two goals and five assists-he’s shown flashes of playmaking ability that the Penguins are clearly hoping to tap into.
At 24 years old, the London, Ontario native has totaled 46 points (18 goals, 28 assists) across his AHL career. He’s not the flashiest name on the board, but he’s a player who’s put in the work and shown he can contribute at this level.
Before turning pro, McAllister made noise in the college ranks with a standout freshman season at Western Michigan University. He led the NCHC in assists (36) and points (49), earning a spot on the conference’s All-Rookie Team. That kind of production doesn’t happen by accident-it’s a sign of high hockey IQ and strong vision on the ice.
And if you go back a bit further, McAllister’s offensive ceiling really came into focus during his time with the Brooks Bandits in the AJHL. In 2021-22, he didn’t just lead the league-he lit it up.
He posted a staggering 139 points in 60 games, including 82 assists, and walked away with both regular-season and playoff MVP honors during the Bandits’ championship run. That kind of dominance, even at the junior level, tends to follow players as they climb the ranks.
The Penguins will get their first chance to see how McAllister fits into the lineup when they hit the road to face the Lehigh Valley Phantoms tomorrow night. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. at the PPL Center.
After that, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton returns home following the AHL All-Star Break for a Valentine’s Day showdown with the Syracuse Crunch. That one’s set for Saturday, Feb. 14 at 6:05 p.m. inside Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.
With the playoff push heating up, every roster move matters-and this one could give the Penguins a little extra offensive spark down the stretch.
