Penguins Just Made Their Next Call On A First-Year Forward

In a strategic move, Tiernan Shoudy returns to the Florida Everblades to gain more experience as he navigates his first year of professional hockey.

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have sent forward Tiernan Shoudy back to their ECHL affiliate, the Florida Everblades.

Shoudy, 24, just finished his first taste of AHL action, appearing in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s lineup on Oct. 23 against the Belleville Senators and again on Oct. 24 against the Hartford Wolf Pack. He was held off the scoresheet in both games.

Before that, Shoudy spent the ECHL’s opening weekend with Florida and picked up one assist in two games. He also saw six regular-season games with the Wheeling Nailers at the end of last season, finishing with one goal and two assists for three points.

This is Shoudy’s first full professional season, following the end of his collegiate career at Michigan State University. The Marysville, Michigan native was a model of consistency with the Spartans, never missing a game across four seasons while producing 65 points, including 25 goals and 40 assists, in 150 appearances.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is back on the road Friday, Oct. 30, when it visits the Utica Comets. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m. at Adirondack Bank Center.

The Penguins’ next home date comes Tuesday, Nov. 10 against the Comets, which also marks the team’s first Winning Weekday of the season. A victory that night would send fans in attendance home with a free ticket to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton’s next midweek home game. Puck drop at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.

Season-ticket packages for the Penguins’ 2026-27 season are available now, with Full-Season, 22-game, 12-game, Flexbook and Premium Seating plans on sale by contacting the club at (570) 208-7367. Single-game tickets can also be purchased at wbspenguins.com, the Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza Box Office or by calling the front office at (570) 208-7367.

Kris Letang Is Giving The Penguins A Reason To Reconsider Everything

Kris Letangs recent stretch has given the Penguins something worth thinking about beyond the usual questions about his offense. The scoring touch has tapered off, but the defensive side of his game has looked sharper, and the underlying numbers point to a veteran who is still capable of driving play in the right direction even as his role shifts.

The wrinkle is that the improvement has not come in every pairing or every situation. Letangs recent minutes suggest the Penguins may be getting better results when they use him differently, and the broader picture is still shaped by some small-sample noise and a few favorable bounces. Even so, the trends are strong enough to make Pittsburgh reconsider how it wants to deploy one of its most important defensemen. [Read more 🡒]

Penguins Keep Sending A Frustrating Message About Their Young Players

The Penguins are getting healthier, and with that comes the kind of roster squeeze that always seems to leave their younger players on the outside looking in. As the club prepares to activate a couple of players from injured reserve, it also appears headed toward sending some of the young call-ups who have recently played well back to the AHL, a familiar cycle for a team trying to balance immediate lineup needs with long-term development.

For a franchise that has talked about getting more out of its next wave, the pattern is starting to carry a frustrating message. The Penguins have leaned on those younger skaters when injuries created openings, then pushed them back down just as they started to make a case for staying, and the timing makes the decision feel even more familiar with the roster getting healthier again. Penguins Slow Start Could Force A Kris Letang Decision

A slow start has put the Penguins in an uncomfortable spot, and TSNs Darren Dreger reported that general manager Kyle Dubas may have to consider a broader reset if the struggles continue. The idea would be a younger roster in the long run, which would mean at least listening on some established names if Pittsburgh is still hovering in the wrong place when the trade deadline gets closer.

Kris Letang sits at the center of that possibility because of what he means to the franchise and because moving him would not be simple. His contract and full no-trade clause give him significant control over his future, so any discussion there would be more complicated than a normal deadline phone call, especially if the Penguins keep drifting in the wrong direction.
